The other "attack" was due to feeding bagels to the fish, so they could all get a good look at the fishies. Unfortunately, a piece of bagel was close to a little girl and she had a chunk taken out of her palm. Unfortunate? YES. But the fish was not attacking...she was just too close to a feeding fish with teeth.
I guess it's not just Discovery Channel that sensationalizes things....

RE: the second link.....Somebody needs to smack that Dad upside the head a few times, and make him aware that while he insisted on a photo of his "trophy", his little girl was standing there HURT. Just look at her face, compared to his! Father of the Year? FAIL! That said, this fish did not purposefully attack. It breached & ended up in a boat, and bit the closest thing to it.
Not only should the father be smacked upside the head, maybe using the cuda to do it if a brick is not available, but that goes the same for the person that took the photo. There are a lot of stupid people out there, but that goes well beyond just stupid. A little thought and care for your child, or any body else, in that situation should not be too much to expect. It reminds me of a trip to Yellowstone park a number of years ago. A man walked down a bank to a river with a young girl, maybe age 8, to photo a moose. The moose starterd charging. The girl tried to climb a tree. The idiot continued taking pictures as the moose got within a few feet of him. People on the bridge were rooting for the moose to run the guy over, but it turned off and went to cross the river. To make matters worse, the man left the kid in the tree, ran up the bank across the bridge and down to the river on the other side to take shots of the moose getting out of the water. There are a lot of idiots out there.

"Moreover, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission there were 37 known vending machine fatalities between 1978 and 1995, for an average of 2.18 deaths per year. Over the past decade there were a total of six recorded shark attack fatalities in the U.S., for an average of .6 deaths per year. Ergo, barring a drastic reduction in the frequency of vending machine accidents since 1995, vending machines are indeed more deadly than sharks by a factor of almost four."
