If you are not schooled in the ways of identifying our oceans marinelife (like myself), but would like to start learning, you can go to www.reef.org.

The mission of R.E.E.F. is:


Reef Environmental Education Foundation is a grass-roots organization that seeks to conserve marine ecosystems by educating, enlisting and enabling divers and other marine enthusiasts to become active ocean stewards and citizen scientists.

Signing up is free. They work on donations and by selling ID products, but they have cool FREE fishinars (webinars), i.e. currently there is a Roatan top 25 fish "fishinar" that was made for the 2014 Scubaboard Invasion of Roatan, but this is really a top 25 fish of the Carribean and would be great for those attending the Singles trip in Roatan this October, or to any trip in the Carribean.

There are also a ton of other cool and interesting webinars I have not even began to see, all for FREE.

Yes, I'm digging up an old thread - but that's because I've watched a whole bunch of fishinars recently, and I have to say I have a lot more confidence in my fish ID. Knowing what fish are which has made me much more aware of the environment that I've been diving in. Plus, it's great when you can teach others.  

 

Frankly, it's a great way to spend one's time when you're stuck not diving.

What a great 'old friend' to dig up!  We new and old topics aka friends!  Good one!

 

TIP: Taking pics helped my identification skills a great deal. First I had something to use to reference too and secondly it helped me to better save my pictures when I figured out what I had taken a picture of!
