With you here too. Love my Petrel and won't dive without out! (did you download the latest update with the new interface?) Soon I will be looking for a reliable second computer too and the Cochran of course is one of the ones at the TOP of my list!

I also agree with you on the mask. I've tried on and/or purchased probably over 20 different masks and I always get a leak (odd shaped face I guess LOL). I've finally found a mask that doesnt leak. I know am ordering two more for the eventuality of the mask getting discontinued! Once you find the right mask, cherish it, and back it up. For some of us it's harder than finding the right fit withjeans LOL!

on the bang for my buck list is either of my dive computers. my Cochrane or my Shearwater. Ive got to have one of them. I can borrow about any piece of gear but either of my computers are must have.

The other item is my mask with the lenses bonded into it. I have to be able to see to dive!

sounds like a good idea!! I have a second mask exactly like the one in my facebook wallpaper picture. If anything goes wrong with it I can move the lenses to the other mask.

I'm thinking about diving on friday the 4th of july. I'll put a post up in the correct forum when I decide for sure.

Here's one to add to the list. The EEZYCUT Trilobite. It can cut through almost anything, comes with replacement blades, can be mounted almost anywhere (I wear mine on my backup computer's wrist strap for quick deployment, I carry a more traditional dive knive on my waist strap), and is virtually impossible to catch on your gear or accidentally slice your dive gear.

That's a good one!! I picked one up at BTS last year and I love it. I haven't figured it out 100% where I want to attach it but I was very impressed with it's cutting abilities.  Thanks

  • I'll second the "save a dive kit" ! This might be a good choice even if you do not own any equipment at all.
  • surface marker buoy (safety sausage) !
  • And, because I am weird, I bought my own nitrox analyzer, though I know most people should spend money elsewhere first, I already own all my dive gear except a boat.
A piece of equipment I bought and hope I NEVER NEVER need is a tube of fluoroscein dye from O.M.S. (ocean dye).220px-Gemini_4_Recovery_with_Green_Marke

Cool! I've been looking for this. Please advise, where did you purchase it?

From eBay:

Force fins - got a great deal on a pair, and thought what the heck. Now I love them, by far my favorite fins.

Scubapro D400 - I love this 2nd stage. Super light, breathes like a dream, just a nightmare to get serviced, that's the only problem.

I also agree with the seacure mouth piece mentioned before, makes life more comfortable.

I swear by the lycra socks. If you duct tapers tried the socks, hard for me to believe you'd go back to the tape.

Neoprene mask strap cover. Keeps ne from having ripped hair and a bald spot.

A 1mm beanie with a Velcro strap has helped make my hairdresser love me again. No more dry frizzy, burnt out hair. A must for girls with dyed curly hair. Unfortunately I've already worn the Velcro out on mine and will have to repurchase.
