Hi folks,

I've had my OW for 6 years or so, but have had only a few opportunities to dive. I logged four dives in The Bahamas a couple of years ago, and two more in Puerto Rico a year or so before that. So instead of waiting for opportunities (those were both business travel where I added days), I'm going to get proactive on this. I'm older - 65 - ok, probably just old for many of you. :) I've been meaning to do this for years and years. Better get going!

I've lurked a bit here and really enjoy the atmosphere and conversation. Being single and a low-dive diver, it's a bit daunting to consider just signing up for a dive and hoping to find a compatible buddy. I was lucky in Nassau having connected ahead of time with a local DM through a scubaboard conversation about the diver operator. He just offered to come along as my buddy. It was great and enabled me to learn a lot in the process. Sounds like the option offered on at least some SD trips.

Tom

Definately. There's usually a rent a buddy option. I would recommend the Roaton trip in the summer, but I'm just a regular member, not staff or anything. I've been on a bunch of trips and all are made to feel welcome. My first trip was Roaton. I only had about 70 logged dives when I joined and now I'm going on 200 this March in Fiji. Dive on in. I'm planning on Belize next thanksgiving too.

Good to hear from you Tom! As Kim mentions above, Kamala offers the Rent a Buddy program to help both new and returning divers who wish to hone skills and enhance confidence. It's a win-win because wee never lose sight of the fact we all were newly minted divers once, and were grateful for mentors as well. Hope you are able to select an upcoming trip and join us soon! :diver:

Hooray! I found a diver close to my age range! I just joined today and was very concerned my age might leave me feeling like an outsider looking in. If you read this, Tom, I would be interested in knowing if it's been a good year for you with this dive group...
