I'm really looking forward to getting involved with this group. I've been wanting to travel and dive but haven't had anyone to go with; I almost gave up on the whole idea until I stumbled on this website!  I just bought my plane ticket to Caymen Brac and am already planning on going on the trip to Wakatobi - Yippie! I just retired from a business I ran with my sister but now I'll have to start a little lemonaide stand to raise money for more diving!!

I started diving about 7 years ago when I was delivering sailboats around the Carribbean, Panama and the BVI's and absolutely feel in love with it. I did a fair amount of diving over 3 years but then, before I knew it, 5 years went by with no dives. Last week, I found myself in West Palm Beach and dove at the Blue Heron Bridge. Wow, crazy critters there! The passion came flooding back and then I found this group - I feel very lucky. I'll be a little rusty on everything, so I'll humbly take gentle help and advice (for instance, my boyancy was all over the place in the shallow water for about 20 min.!) It will be great to be around so many experienced divers.

I would love to hear your feedback on what your first trip was like with this group - what to expect, what it was like to travel alone and meet up with a new group of people, etc.

Thanks,

Penny

:hiya:  Penny and :welcome:  to the fabulous world of Singledivers.com!!!!!  I started diving with SD in 2005 - a great choice.  My dive buddy decided he needed to go find himself and I was left with no dive buddy and everyone at my LDS was attached to someone.   My first trip was to Grenada and I was hooked after that.   Had a blast and have been on many trips since then.   Kamala puts on the best trips, you will meet the greatest people and divers from all levels of diving experience.  Check out some of the past forums and please feel free to ask questions.  Cayman Brac will be a great trip and I am soooo jealous, Wakatobi is on my bucket list.  Hope to meet you on a dive trip. :wakawaka:

Hello Penny,

Welcome to SingleDivers.  I had been on numerous trips, where I was travelling alone, and subject to an unknown room mate and dive buddy.  I found SingleDivers 4-5 years ago, and joined because they had a couple of trips on the schedule that I was very interested in.  I was very impressed with the extra effort that went into finding compatible room mates and dive buddies on a Kamala trip.  That alone makes the trip A LOT better than a solo trip and not knowing who you get paired up with.  Another welcoming aspect of her trips are the quality of people.  Everyone is an equal.  The people of this group have a wide variety of diving experience, and so many of the more experienced divers are quick to share knowledge, and help out the newer divers.

Hi Penny, I am joining the chorus welcoming you to our community of friendly, seasoned and enthusiastic dive buddies! You are in the best possible hands; The Wench specializes in coaching, mentoring and in general knocking the rust off returning divers. :angel2:

My first trip with SingleDivers.com was North Carolina 2011. It was a drive in affair for me, was warmly welcomed by other members when I arrived with encouraging words and smiles. Kamala was engaged and attentive to my questions; as it turned out, my experience was a point in suggesting I could buddy with less confident divers if I wished (NC happens to be pretty challenging, advanced diving). I accepted and had a great time socializing on the (relatively long) ride out to dive the best dive sites on the NC coast, as well as great dinner company with livelyconversation with lots of laughter.

Since that first experience I am now a veteran of more than seven trips, from liveaboards in the Turks, and the Caribbean to the diverse diving of South Florida and more. I cannot offer a more compelling endorsement, as I demand the most for my dive trip money. :cool1:

Again, welcome! :welcome:

Thank you all for welcoming me and for your reassuring words! I can be shy and hermit-like so this trip will be good for me. I look forward to your kind support as I fumble through tank hook-ups and awkward buoyancy (so embarrassing until you get your sea legs back!) The count down is on for Caymen Brac and I just found my scuba gear after 7 years of being in storage - I can't wait!

Probably a good idea to have your gear serviced and inspected after that long dry. Excited for you!! Wish I were on this trip; you are going to LOVE the diving AND the fellowship with our group!
