Currently the Oriskany is in Corpus Christi being debunked of harmful chems and anything not permanently part of the ship:

USS Oriskany
Essex-Class Aircraft Carrier
888ft. Long

Being sunk 20 miles off the coast of Pensacola in 210ft. off water
Flight deck is at a depth of 61ft.

Launched 1945
Sailed Western Pacific
Extensive Vietnam Tours

Flight deck and superstructure will be available to recreational divers!

Expected to generate $90MM in revenue from divers & anglers.

There continue's to remain 24 more Naval ships between 437-1,086ft. long that five coastal states are vying for.

FYI everybody! :lmao:

This was in the Dallas Morning News this morning!

As I understand it the time frame is sometime around the end of the year. Is that right?

btw, great meeting you this weekend in Athens.

Not sure about the actual dates, the artical referred to the sinking as simply "soon" but your probably right.

Looks like a really cool dive both for AOW and Master Divers / Nitrox / Advanced Skills.

Would love to make it out there to see it before the critters take over, just for a different freshly sank perspective.

I heard rumors about a carrier that FL & Texas were dualing for, maybe this one was it, but maybe not. Not much out in the Gulf from Texas, I think we need something like that bad, ofcourse out of the shipping lanes and in a nice placid area somewhere between the first rigs and shore, but out enough for the clear water.

Been wanting to do the Speigel Grove but might hit this asap.

Pleasure meeting you at Athens!

It was this ship that Texas was dueling with Florida to get recently, I think the Texas plan was to sink it off Galvestion Island between Freeport and Galveston so, as you pointed out, it would be out of the shipping lanes.

Pensacola is good place to sink it, though.

Let's just hope they dont use the same crew that sank the speigel
grove or should I say the same crew that allowed the speigel grove
to sink itself !
