Peter it was quite colorful at the shallow levels but I did notice a decrease in the pink sponges from the last time. That being said just as Cozumel and Belize have changed a lot in the past 10 yrs...I'm sure the Red Sea has as well.

Actually I am quite glad the officials have cracked down on photos etc. You will never preserve the history if allowed to go unabated. To resolve the issue of bribing the guards in the past 2 years there are now places where you can't take the cameras into the compound. Easier to restrict all access than fix the problem of corrupt guards.

I have always love the Red Sea and doing a 'dive only' pkg can be quite economical. I will be looking at this and of course the option we just completed as many wish to have the granddaddy of them all experiences that we just had!

And that it was....SIMPLY THE BEST!!!

The Red Sea photo gallery is now OPEN - see HERE

Due to currents, it wasn't easy for me (as a photo novice) to get the shots I wanted, but I've uploaded some that you can at least tell what I was shooting at! tongue.gif I'm especially proud of the 1" clownfish in the pink anemone.....

I've posted land tour pics as well, and I just discovered that I'm missing an entire disk.....there is a 128 picture gap, starting with most of Hatshepsut's Temple, the sail on the Nile, Luxor Temple, and the drive to Hurghada!!! bigscream.gif Took that disk out of the camera when I got on the liveaboard to protect it from possible flooding, and I guess I've misplaced the darned thing! banghead.gif

Just received this from Undercurrent-- Right after we left Hurghada This Oil Spill

The Red Sea had one of its own last month. Large quantities of oil started showing up on June 17 around the Egyptian dive resort of Hurghada. Egypt's environmental and tourism ministries said the oil came from a passing tanker and was now contained, but anonymous oil company officials told the Associated Press the spill was caused by a leak from an offshore oil platform north of Hurghada and has polluted about 100 miles of coastline, beaches and protected marine areas. "The companies responsible didn't notify anyone -- it is catastrophic," said Amr Ali, managing director of the Hurghada Environmental Protection and Conservation Agency, who believes the government is doing a coverup to keep tourists from canceling trips. ohmy.gif
