One of the most eye-opening films I have seen in the last few years was
The Cove. I saw it on Animal Planet last week and the images and content still haunt me.
I am not an activist and I do try to see both sides of any given argument, but this film presents the annual dolphin
hunt slaughter in Taiji, Japan with raw footage and facts that quite simply shocked me. The depth of this movie and the layers of lies, deception and untruths supported by official Japanese government departments is staggering.
This film won an Academy Award for Best Documentary in 2009 and has received rave reviews. If you have any interest in the sea, sealife or ecology I recommend you watch this film and as always, make up your own mind.
Added later: Animal Planet is also running a new TV series based on the film called
Blood Dolphins. I found a reference saying The Cove would be repeated on the Animal Planet channel on September 4th, but cannot find confirmation on their web site.
