Puerta Galera PHILIPPINES, April 7-14, 2018

MNLmandarinfish

Puerto Galera has some of the best diving in Asia and two dive sites in particular are world famous; “The Canyons” which is an exhilarating rollercoaster drift dive, and “Verde Island”, a marine park reserve which feels like diving in an aquarium.  Most of the dive sites in Puerto Galera are no more than ten minutes away by speedboat, with year round good visibility, warm water, and an abundance of marine life.  Puerto Galera makes an ideal choice for a diving holiday, whether you are a beginner or expert diver and is an excellent place for macro spotting and underwater photography

    DIVING

“The Verde Island Passage Marine Corridor (VIP) is famously known as “the center of the center of marine biodiversity” (Carpenter and Springer, 2005). It is the proverbial heart of the Coral Triangle, the apex of aquatic life on Earth. The Passage’s 900,000 square-kilometer area is home to 60% of the world’s known shorefish species, and even as much has yet to be explored in its waters.

Marine life here has the highest levels of endemism and biodiversity anywhere. Scientists counted 1,736 species in a mere 10-by-10 kilometer area. This includes more than 300 coral species and 32 mangrove species in Batangas alone, 20 seagrass species in Balayan Bay and Mindoro Oriental, 162 fish species, rare enclaves of clams, endangered sea turtles, and more. You don’t need to be a mathematician to be astounded of the plentitude of creatures that live in the VIP. Just this June 2015, scientists from the California Academy of Sciences found more than 100 rare and new species in the Passage."

There are dives for all levels, from easy training dives amongst pristine coral to high-voltage drift dives, to muck dives.
    • All dives with Asia Divers are guided by experienced Instructors or Divemasters (who lead the dive in the water giving you the best of the dive sites) and planned using the Recreational Dive Planner and or Dive Computers.
    • All the convenience of a live-aboard but all the attraction and flexibility of being land based.
    • Some of the best dive sites in Asia - over 30 sites all within 15 minutes travel - dive sites are suitable for all experience levels, it couldn’t be more convenient.
    • There are at least five scheduled dives a day, every day; 8:00, 10:30, 13:30, 16:00 and 18:00(night) with a choice of dive sites at each time.
    • Diving in small groups (six or less) from local Bangka (outrigger) boats and two speed boats.
    • Diving is all year round, every day of the week, with water temperatures between 71 and 84 (22c and 29c), the coldest months being Dec – Feb. Visibility is usually at least 15m to 40m.
    • You must produce a log book and certification card before diving. Day trips (Verde Island & Hot Springs) can be arranged at short notice.

    DIVE SHOP

We will be using Asia Divers. Check out their reviews on Trip Advisor:

“I would always choose Asia Divers”

    5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 19, 2015

For serious divers, this is the place to go. Highly professional outfit for trips or training, They score over other dive operations by having a purpose built diving speedboat meaning most dive sites are 5 to 10 minutes away and you can be back on shore with a drink while the others are slugging along in a banka. They also have a purpose built dive dock, so no wading through surf and climbing up a wobbly plank. Most DMs are instructors so can assist with any problems.

Asia Divers have a huge spotless compressor so you can usr nitrox with confidence. Asia Divers also tends to attract experienced divers so there is no need to compromise on dive site choice.

    Why go anywhere else?

  • Experience Required / Training & Workshops

    EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

Diving in Puerto Galera PG offers something for not only all skill sets but also all types of divers including photographers, tech divers and zen divers. PG has many mooring line muck dives meaning you dive approx 60+ feet along a sandy bottom looking for (or waiting for the dive master to find) amazing critters that the Philippines are renown for. Or you can lazily float along in a drift dive and just absorb the beauty of the reefs and corals. Since most dives require you to be able to dive to at least 60 ft and/or do a drift dive...its important to have some experience under your belt so you can be comfortable with the varied diving in PG.  We are NOT offering our Rent A Buddy program on this trip but you can hire a private dive master to either help your buoyancy and trim or to just spot critters for you. This is $20 per dive or up to $80 per day if you do all 4 possible day dives in the pkg.

Please email if you have other questions about your ability to safely and easily enjoy the amazing diving of Puerta Galera Philippines. Kamala

    TRAINING & WORKSHOPS

There are no SingleDivers.com training activities nor workshops currently planned for this trip.  We are happy to check with the resort about doing training during your trip and what they would charge. Often they will give us a better price so feel free to ask us to assist.  If you would like us to help arrange additional training for you, simple click in the SUPPORT tab in the main menu and then click on SUBMIT HELP TICKET and click on TRIP ADMINISTRATION and request assistance.

We will also check to see if any of our trip participants are instructors who would like to teach on the trip and let you know.  We are glad you are interested in continuing your dive education and we hope we can help you continue your goal of ongoing training.

    Communication

    English is widely spoken.

Puerto Galera has come a long way over the years and now with landlines to assist with faster check out times, wireless internet for those that have to stay in touch, it's easy.

Pay phones, mobile phone load cards, fax and email are all available.

    Medical Information

No malaria in the area, but inoculations for Hep A, Typhoid, Polio and Tetanus are recommended, always check with your doctor.

  • Insurance, Documentation, and T&C's

    INSURANCE

DIVE Insurance is required! DIVE insurance is VERY inexpensive. Even if you have insurance that you think covers DIVING ACCIDENTS and air lifts…it is CHEAP (approx $100) to get a supplemental policy to ensure you are covered for an entire year of diving.

    We recommend:

Dive Assure: for either a 'one time' policy OR an annual policy for BOTH Dive & Trip Insurance providing PRIMARY COVERAGE with excellent rates and coverage! Please reference SingleDivers.com via the drop-down menu under GLOBAL PARTNERS. (If you can not find the drop down, do not reference anyone and email info@singledivers.com your policy info and we will do it for you via our Dive Assure company representative.)

Diver's Alert Network: Please use our reference number when ordering: ID1603080   (This only works if you are a new first time DAN member.)

Trip Insurance is STRONGLY SUGGESTED and/or required (depending on the trip)!  TRIP insurance is VERY inexpensive. Even if you have insurance that you think covers your trip…it is CHEAP (approx $100-$200) to get a supplemental policy to ensure you are covered for your investment in your dive trip. If you opt to not get trip insurance you are responsible for all losses related to your trip including not going for any reason.

    We recommend:

Dive Assure: for either a 'one time' policy OR an annual policy for BOTH Dive & Trip Insurance with excellent rates and coverage! Please reference SingleDivers.com via the drop-down menu under GLOBAL PARTNERS. (If you can not find the drop down, do not reference anyone and email info@singledivers.com your policy info and we will do it for you via our Dive Assure company representative.)

    DOCUMENTATION

All SingleDivers.com trips require necessary documentation to facilitate booking your trip and/or making it a better experience for you.  Once you complete your documents online our automated system will take the information from your last trip with us and fill out your new trip forms for you. You then add any missing information and/or change anything that is no longer current. You will find the forms you need to complete under MY TRIPS which you will find under TRIPS in the main menu across the top of the site. Since each trip requires a unique set of docs, please choose the correct trip from your "My Trips" drop down and then complete the forms required for that trip. Some trips will also ask you to complete the resort or liveaboard's forms as well.

The AIR AUTHORIZATION FORM is only required when you are having SingleDivers.com book air for you but this includes air that is part of the trip pkg price.

Not all of our forms are online as they are either infrequently used or being phased out. If you need a form that is not in our online directory, simply click on SUPPORT on the main menu and then click on SUBMIT HELP TICKET and choose TRIP ADMINISTRATION and ask for the form you need.

    TERMS & CONDITIONS

We understand that 'more is usually better' when it comes to information about your upcoming dive vacation. However we can never anticipate every question you may have so we have no problems answering anything we did not include or anything you do not fully understand. In fact we were founded using "Forums" which easily facilitates Q&A and basically talking to each other in an ongoing electronic format. Today we utilize several 'communications mechanism's which still include our forums called the "Surface Interval" but also our Help Ticket System, Knowledge Base and FAQ.

    HOW TO ASK A QUESTION

You can ask questions about our trips in two easy ways.

    1. Use our Surface Interval FORUMS to ask questions in the specific trip topic/thread. You can always find this by clicking on the turquoise button that says FORUM THREAD found at the top and bottom of each trip's details.
    2. You can use our Help Ticket System to ask a question by clicking on the SUPPORT tab in the main menu and then clicking on SUBMIT HELP TICKET and then clicking on TRIP ADMINISTRATION.  We will reply to your question as soon as we can and post the replies in the TRIP THREAD in our Forums. We will also move appropriate questions to our FAQ's and Knowledge Bases.

    ONGOING UPDATES

We use several tools to keep EVERYONE on a trip updated. They are ALL vitally important for you to monitor and stay apprised of. They are as follows:

    1. The "Welcome to the Trip" PM (private message via our FORUMS) which is sent to as soon as you sign up for the trip. You can not receive these unless you are a Premier member or above. As soon as you either pay or show interest in the trip thread/topic we'll send you this PM. It has helpful info about signing up for the trip and will be used THROUGHOUT the pre-trip process to keep you updated on critical things regarding your trip with us.
    2. The Trip Topic in our FORUMS (the first post has the trip details in it) and subsequent posts will contain ongoing questions and updates. We also start separate topics for important trip related matters. Please click on the FORUM THREAD  button to be taken to the Trip Discussion Thread/Topic for this particular trip. PLEASE monitor these for IMPORTANT UPDATES that affect your trip.
    3. The FAQ, KNOWLEDGE BASE & HELP TICKET SYSTEM. When in the main site you'll always be able to click on the SUPPORT tab on the main menu and find the Help Ticket System, Knowledge Base, Glossary and FAQ. Every time someone ask a question we we will file it in the appropriate TRIP KNOWLEDGE BASE and/or FAQ as well as posting it on in the FORUMS Trip Thread. This will allow you to find the information you need in one of several places making it easier for you to get the information you need and ask the questions you want.
