dustbowl diver made a recent post about being in good standing with the Dive Your @$$ Off Club, which made me wonder what standards you need to establish in order to become a member of this hallowed organization. There are a few of us crazies out there that dive at any opportunity. So I thought I would run a few ideas up the proverbial flagpole and see if anyone saluted...

So my proposed list would include:

- You must have done a minimum of 50 logged dives in the last 365 days.

- On any given trip you must go on > 90% of all offered dives on a trip, including all extras dives and excursions.

- Must have all dive op / liveaboard staff know you by your first name by the end of the first day of diving.

- Your dive gear cannot be completely dry for the duration of the trip.

- Must be able to silently raise one eyebrow and look mildly insulted whenever you are asked if you want to go diving.

- We should also have a clause in our constitution to accept any cute blonde's who have over 1000 dives, dive dry and run a web board for single divers too...

:o

If this idea takes off then we will need a club crest and motto as well.

Fides quaerens aqua...?

Fortitudine vincimus...?

Sounds like pretty easy requirements to meet.
Lets make it happen.

Raising one eyebrow is like curling your tongue. It's genetic, you either can do it, or you'll never be able to do it. Neither have a thing to do with diving.

Some of the folks I dive with do 25 dives in one week or 50 in two, so they are way over the 50 dives a year requirement. I am way too much of a wimp for them. :o

Well, I passed the majority of the requirements for this little club within a club. But Walter, I can't do either and am not even in the same class as you when it comes to diving!!

I can't do the eyebrow thing either John. But can I still join - even though you guys kicked me off your boat after one day. :wakawaka: (After your performance at the tacky tourist contest, I will go dancing with you though, :wakawaka: or on second thought, I might not be worthy there either :wakawaka: ).
As for me, I'm feeling pretty scubalicious.

I have most of the requirements; most years I make 75 or more dives, this year is a little lower

and John, I can do the eyebrow thing and the tongue thing too - guess I'm lucky that way :wakawaka:

I think it also depends how accessible diving is to those that truely love the sport. For some, it is a twice a year "dive dive dive" thing. For others (like Brits and coastal State residents) they may not dive their @$$ but they would very quickly clock up the dives required. Other pertinent questions may be "what % of your vacation time do you spend diving?" or "how many weekends a year do you dive?". Or even.... "What % of your disposable income do you spend on diving?"

Oh no, lets not force ourselves to ask THAT question... :wakawaka: Some things are best left as a mystery...

I just don't wanna answer the question of how much I spend. Don't wanna know.

Everyone says you should get involved with a diver. Let's hope she has a job to pay her own way as I have a hard enough time affording my own habit... Ummm, I mean hobby... Yeah, that's it... :wakawaka:

Do you think it's a bad sign that I got a part time job at a dive shop to support my habit? And what if you spend MORE than your disposable income???? Yikes. Maybe you should start a 12-step program in conjunction with the Dive Your @$$ Off Club. I've already admitted I have a problem, so I'm on my way. lol.

Next trip we're definitely going dancin' baby. Maybe if you come up here and dive the "O" with me I can prove my worthiness for wreck diving. ; ) When are you and Tom going to come to Pensacola??
