This morning I drove up to Alpena to dive with another SD member in my neck of the woods. ScubaGypsy is travelling with his three sons in a motorhome over the Great Lakes. He got blown off of Lake Erie, but not Lake Huron :lmao: .

The Nordmeer is a 470 ft. freighter that ran aground on November 19, 1966. It was salvaged, but the main hull, engines, etc. still lie in 30-40 ft. of water in Lake Huron. Ice floes have taken it's toll on the once proud freighter, but part of the bow still lies above water to mark the wreck site.

It was a beautiful day today and I dove with ScubaGypsy's two oldest sons. He dove with his youngest son. The group I was diving with did two dives. We did two dives of about 35 ft. and roughly 40 min. of run/bottom time (before they got cold). The water temp was about 65 degrees F. with nearly limitless visibility.

Both of our dives were done along the stern. We found new areas to explore on this large wrecksite to the point that we still didn't see all of the wreck. The gobies greeted us a fond hello thoughout our dives. Outside of the water, our captain had camped out on the wreck as a child when his father had the salvage rights to the wreck. He knew all about it :lmao: .

Regretfully, I had to go down at the end of our day on the water to lift the hook and go home. It sure was a nice change of pace for a day, though. I thank SG and his sons for inviting me along. I hope that they come up here again sometime and that they have great dives in Tobermory.
A person should be judged in this life not by the mistakes that they make nor by the number of them. Rather they are to be judged by their recovery from them.

It sounds like a really great time! I'm jealous, I need to get wet soon or my gills my shrivel up!
