Ok this is a spin off of the first dive thread. My first dive trip is coming up (Roatan). I have extremely HIGH expectaions from you guys! I don't exactly what to expect but it $#%#@ well better be alot of fun :cool2:.

So tell me about your first trip. Did it meet your first expectations? What were they? How high were they? Did everything go according to plan (both dive and non-dive)?
I put my right foot in, I put my left foot out, I do the aikipokey and throw you all about :D

Diving is always fun :lmao:

You'll meet some divers that you'll like, some you'll like more, and some you'll try to avoid. The survey is pretty important so if you have a certain expectation, please put it on the survey and you might be pleasantly surprise. If you are not, it's only a week, and seek out people that you like and hang out with them.

I still keep in touch with friends from previous trips and so sorry for not being able to go on this one. Darn lost passport :cool2: Have fun for me too.

Que :D

I have been on a few SD trips - and have had great times on all of them.

My trips have ranged from camp outs in Texas to 2 weeks in Fiji. You will meet a lot of different people - and like Que said - all have different personalities and values when it comes to both life and diving. You'll have to make the choice who to both hang out with and dive with.

There will be "clusters" if you will - they are unavoidable when you travel - even as a single traveler - so just go knowing not every thing is going to FLOW and you'll be fine. :respect: I got put in "time out" in Cozumel because I was cranky because things got a little clustered at check in.............so - unless you want to be in "time out" from the beginning - just go get a cocktail and let the Wench work it all out! :)

The trips are what you make of them - put forth your best side and jump right in and you will have a blast!

I know several of the folks going to Roatan and you are in GREAT COMPANY - (though.........watch out for Kim.......Kamala.........Jill............Ray.......Stan.......oh dear........the list keeps growing!!)

Put a smile on your face and a reg in your mouth and have a ball!!!

My first SD trip was mostly a blast - my SO got sick in Holbox, but that had nothing to do with the trip or the group. She planned to return after the snorkel with Whale Sharks weekend so my solo trip to Cozumel was part of our plan.

I was pleasantly surprised by how well the group spent time together. With more than 1 person, there are always personality diversities, but I think we worked through them well.

On the diving, we had one boat, but we split our group into two, and had two drops - the more advanced and then the less. There was also usually a third daily dive for the addicts - which was usually less than half the crew.

My room mate was excellent, and I think SD did a good job of matching from what I could tell from the others on the trip.

Consistent with what you read on the board, SD is about diving, and not about finding true love, and everyone on our trip seemed to be aligned with that philosophy.

Go, bring your best dive plans, dive your plan.
No aquarium, no tank in a marine land, however spacious it may be, can begin to duplicate the conditions of the sea. And no dolphin who inhabits one of those aquariums or one of those marine lands can be considered normal.

But you could find an excellent dive buddy, like I did when I met Doris in NC last year. :cool2:
