In a wetsuit, if nature calls, well.....
Thank God that cold water doesn't stimulate bladder function like warm water.

i hate to tell you this, brian, but cold water ALSO stimulates the body to pee:

cold water ---> vasoconstriction in the periphery (ie, your skin)
vasoconstriction---> increases blood flow to internal organs (the body tries to keep "vital organs" alive by "sacrificing" blood flow to skin)

increased blood flow----> increased KIDNEY blood flow---> increased production of urine

so there's gonna be plenty of pee. now, if you've got great bladder capacity, you're GOLDEN, so to speak....

I admit it , I'm a pee-er! :anna2:
I dive mostly in cold water, and when you gotta go, you just gotta go. I mentioned in a previous post, when the water is cold and you let out some 98.6 degree liquid, it kind of warms you up. Sorry if I am grossing out any of you non-pee-ers, but hey, I just tell it like it is!!

I do wash my wetsuit after diving, using a mild anti-bacterial soap.

Surprizingly, I did not have to go when we dove in the Florida springs...that 72 degree water felt warm to my cold ohio bladder....

And yes, I am potty trained... :anna:

This does bring up a tangent question for you non-pee types.

How do you feel about wearing and using DEPENDS in a dry suit? (NEVER pee in a dry suit without them !!)

Never pee in a wet suit.... definately not in a dry suit.

We did a lot of travelling as a kid, and my folks made us kids "hold it in" until they wanted to stop (rarely did we stop when some one said -- gotta go). So I'm lucky I guess -- I go before, and go after as required.

Depends work fine, especially for those of us that don't like the ides of punching another hole in our suit for the pee valve.

Besides, it beats the alternative of filling the boots with kitty litter

I dont like wearing a diaper. I didnt like them when I was a baby, and I still dont. I am very happy that I put a p-valve in my drysuit. Shaving around the pole is the worst part, but its not bad. The condom caths do have alot of glue on them, so beware of using them without shaving. I got a sample pack from a medical supply house (the name escapes me). The Rochester wide bands are a popular choice.

I have to admit that if I gotta go, I gotta go. I drink a lot of water; and I do mean a lot, so yes it is clear. I also wash my own suit, even if the resort or dive operation offers to clean my suit, something about all those suits and the water not really being fresh turns me off. I think it's slimy. So, even though it's an extra effort, I take my wet suit, lycra, booties swimsuit and wash them out while I am taking a shower and washing my hair. Hence, so far I don't even come home with stinky dive gear, even my booties smell clean (i put a little shampoo in both booties). Then if the air conditioner positioned close to the ground (balcony floor) I stand my booties up so the exhaust hot air from the air conditioner dries them out. Dry booties in the morning to begin a day of diving.

Golly guys!! I'm a one-woman pee machine, personally. I was born with bladder issues (to put it simply).
Not only do I pee, I probably hold the record for the most times on any given dive....and my wetsuits get a good day to two day soak after diving, so (to my knowledge), they're quite smell-free....
I've actually been quite proud of the fact that I finally found a sport where I DON'T have to worry about the pee issue... (I used to ride horses.....oops.)
Ok, maybe this wasn't the best topic for you guys to start to get to know me on!

This brings up the whole drysuit thing with women. I can shave all I want and that condom cath ain't gonna do me a bit of good. So what's a girl to do about the whole pee thing in a drysuit? It would appear that a Depends is in order.

Last weekend, I had my drysuit (and was Depends-free) and was boat diving in North Carolina. I just about couldn't get out of the thing fast enough . . . I can see seal damage isn't far behind . . . .
