Important Trip Updates:

Arrival Dinner Thursday Aug 2nd:

For those arriving on Thursday afternoon or early evening we will plan to do dinner as a group so all can start meeting one another!

Sticky Finger's BBQ
7690 Northwoods Blvd.
North Charleston, SC
843-797-7427

Directions:
Go out the hotel to the left and you'll see it 1/4 mil down the road on the right. If you reach the mall you've gone too far.

Breakfast, Lunch, Cookout & Diving Update Friday August 3rd:

Agenda:
Breakfast at 6:00am
6:45 Carpool to dive site from hotel. (Experienced Cooper River Divers will lead the way.)

Note: Lunch will be served on the boats daily. SD's famous group bbq with 4 different meats all marinated differently along with a choice of healthy sides will be Friday night to celebrate our first day of finds!

Cookout: The cookout will be at the hotel by the outside pool area at 7:30pm.

Gear & Equipment Needed for the River:

River Kits: Unfortunately OTWDiver will not be able to get the right tooled brass to do his 'famous' river picks to finish out his kits. So the best substitute will be 8in long philips head screwdrivers that you drill a hole into to thread a looped handle thru of string, etc. (The idea is that it will fit over your wrist like a lanyard.) The heavier the screwdriver the better as you will use it to help you move into the current while you look for teeth. Don't worry...we'll show all the new Cooper River divers how to hunt and find teeth! :cool1:

p.s. for those running late there is a home depot near the hotel and restaurant so you can get one there if you need too. Just try to get one with a hole in the end to attach a lanyard too or add the hole yourself. If you do not have a drill or access to one, let us know and we'll see what we can come up with.

Knee Pads: Don't forget to bring these as well to protect your knees and your wetsuit. I think the soft is the best choice as you will be kneeling on them during your entire dive.

Lights: Your vis will be the strength of your light. The more powerful your light the more vis you will have. OffTheWallDiving has a total of (3) 25watt Canister Lights for rent for $25 per day. (They are worth it! Last year I rented one...this year I own one! And he will cut you a great deal on buying one if you decide you too have to own one. They are light enough to fly with and powerful enough for the most demanding of light needs!) Also you will need a back up light . Again the more powerful the better.

Safety Sausage & Whistle/Alert: Bring a sausage if you have it. If not OffTheWallDiving will supply you a sausage. You will need a whistle or dive alert. Unfortunately OTWall does not have those to lend to divers.

Computer: While not deep dives...35-45 ave depth you will be doing 4 hours of diving on air. You should use a computer for these dives to watch your nitrogen loading. If you do not have one and would like to participate in DAN research you can use a state of the art Cochran Computer for simply providing some info about yourself and wearing a computer. Let me know if you want to use the Cochran computers. And if you just wnat the extra safety of a second computer or you want to help out DAN...let me know that too! I usually have 5- 10 computers available but they are offered on a first come first served basis and a couple are already spoken for.

For the river kits, do we need to place an order for them or just pick them up when we're there? If we need to order them, can you put me and divervic down for them?
thx
Pete

Pete he can't get the brass he needs for the picks. The brass adds the weight that you need to make them very stable and more effective. You can accomplish almost the same thing by using a philips head screw driver and drilling a hole in the handle to thread a lanyard or loop so you can attach it to your wrist. You only need one and it will help you hold your own into the current. I can show you mine and if you still want one we'll get you one..especially if you are going to dive the Cooper Again!

You can also get the knee pads on your own...suggest the soft ones and of course part of the kit was a discount of your rental price on the canister light towards the purchase. You can still get that since he has 2 more canisters for rent.

So get a couple of screwdrivers for your picks for this trip. If you catch *Cooper Fever* then we'll get you set up with a professional river kit! :lmao:

Payment Update:

1. Mark aka DiverMark got your payment for the canister light rental! Remind me to dive with you as you'll be lighting up the whole river with that thing! :P

Sounds good. Turns out, I will drive to Charleston tomorrow, then fly to NY and back on Thursday, arriving at 8:06pm (long story to follow). From an earlier message I think you said that you would plan dinner at 8-8:30. I will plan to drive directly to the restaurant. Please don't wait for me, though, as evening flights are usually late.

Important Trip Update:

Hotel Check In:

When you arrive at the hotel go to the front desk and tell them your name and you are with the SingleDivers.com group. You are already checked in. You will get a key for your room. I'll send a pm/email with the rooming assignments.

If you are checking in early let us know. You can put your things in Bill aka OTWDiver's room if you need too. For example NJBerserker is arriving VERY early from taking the overnight train from the NE. He will arrive around 5am, gather his things and head to the hotel. Bill has a charter for a few days prior to our trip so can meet him in the lobby around 6am or a bit earlier to get his luggage. NJB will then spend the day sightseeing around historic Charleston. Keith aka kcdive82 will be arriving late due to some meetings so won't be in until about 11pm or later.

We will let your roommates know...help you get checked in early or stowe your luggage. Just let us know!

Rooming Assignments:

Rooming assignments are done based upon the number of days you are staying, if you are willing to pay for a single room if you have no roommate for one night and your rooming survey. Sometimes people ask to room together and we try to accommodate that as much as possilbe. We do appreciate the flexibility you show us and we usually do a great job on rooming. (Just ask our previous trip goers!) In fact I did such a great job last year on this trip that 4 of the 12 divers are repeats and wanted to room with the same people they roomed with last time! WOW! I guess my job gets easier when I do it right the first time!

In any event...if there is a problem and it is NOT working just let me know and I'll be happy to work with you to find an acceptable alternative.

Thank you all again and I'm looking forward to a great trip! kamala
