The PDE Extravaganza – Everybody Wins!
Last Updated: 3/27/2007 7:00:30 PM

It’s not often that a situation comes around where everybody wins, especially when you can win while doing something you plan to be doing anyway. But the PDE Extravaganza is just such a thing, and it’s starting soon.

Kicking off on Memorial Day and running through Labor Day (May 28 – Sept. 3, 2007), the PDE Extravaganza invites you to support DAN Research and Project Dive Exploration (PDE) by sharing with DAN the dives you’ll make this summer. It’s easy to participate, and by doing so you’ll qualify to win prizes, including a grand prize of $250* to spend at DAN!

To recognize the first 10 dives you submit (dives must be completed between May 28 and Sept. 3), DAN will send you a special commemorative T-shirt to mark your participation, and we’ll automatically enter you in the drawing for the $250 grand prize. For every additional five dives you submit, we’ll enter you again. The more you dive, the better your chances of winning!

If you’re new to PDE and are using a Level 3 computer, here’s how to participate:

You can participate if you use a Cochran, Dive Rite, Suunto, or Uwatec downloadable dive computer and already collect your dive profiles electronically using the latest version of the computer manufacturer’s software. Complete the Diver ID Enrollment Form online at www.diversalertnetwork.org/research/challenge
Go diving!
Log your dive profiles electronically, use your DAN diver ID and submit to DAN.
Are you already a regular contributor to PDE? You don’t have to change anything. Just continue diving and submitting your dive profiles as you already do; we’ll simply count your submitted dives during the Extravaganza period and enter you in the raffle for the grand prize.

Are you using a Level 2 computer?

If you're using another computer besides those listed above and are interested in participating in the PDE Extravaganza, contact DAN Research to find out how. Just give us a call at (919) 684-2948 or send us an email at Research@dan.duke.edu. We’ll be happy to get you started.

Divers will have until Oct. 1 to submit the dives for the PDE Extravaganza. Only dive profiles collected between May 28 and Sept. 3 will earn you your T-shirt and entries in the drawing. All T-shirts will be awarded after the Extravaganza closes, and we’ll announce the grand prize-winner on Oct. 31.

The PDE Extravaganza is an exciting opportunity for you to win and do something you already love to do. And not only will your win be in the form of prizes, but you’ll know that by sharing your dive experiences, you are supporting DAN Research and helping to increase not only your own dive safety, but the safety of divers everywhere. Everybody wins!

*Some redemption restrictions may apply.

This is a great program and SingleDivers.com is proud to support DAN's efforts to extend Diver Research to the masses.

How are we helping?

1. We have partnerships with manufacturer's who build collection software into their computers namely Cochran Undersea Technologies and Dive Rite.
2. Through special arrangements with these great partners we can help you help DAN for less money!*
3. We do PDE Research on everyone of our trips so you can participate that way.
4. We work closely with DAN and Cochran in particular to get you free collection and analysis software worth $200 to $400 for FREE with the purchase of a participating computer.*
5. We work to educate our members on the importance of this research and how they can personally make a difference!

Are you ready to participate? Are you ready to make a difference?

Very cool. Just wrote them for more details. You may as well bring an additional large T to Grenada. 10 dives... I can do those in the first couple of days... :taz:

just wondering what the redemption restrictions are.

I know a stupid question but I going to be collecting data for DAN during the internship so does that restrict me?

So we do not know what is the difference between a "level 3" and a "level 2" computer.

Are they looking for people to email the records from the dive computer (depth, time, ascent rate, descent rate etc etc) ?

i would say email Research@dan.duke.edu and they can get you all the information about it. i think that the level two computers are ones that havent had the dan data collection component built into the software like the level III computers do

Apparently, a Level 3 computer can download dives in DL7 format. I assume that is a special format that is consistent across multiple manufacturers.

Level 3 computers mean that they have hardcoded the research parameters into their software collection tools. You download your dives...fill out screens regarding temps, exposure suit, if you smoked or drank within the last 24 hours etc and then transmit this electronically to DAN.

The following computers have this level of integration;

Cochran, Dive Rite Suunto, or Uwatec downloadable dive computer using the latest version of the computer manufacturer’s software.

Level 2 computers are all others who do not have this level of integration. Not sure if they have any integration or not.

If someone calls DAN and gets the scoop please let us know what you find out. :D

I am most familiar with Cochran as we collect PDE data all the time for DAN. It is simple, easy and helps DAN do the 'real world' dive research that they need to do!

what type of scoop would you be looking for????? Dont hold me to this but as i understand it the level 3 computers are computers that have had the DAN dive aquistion software built/incorperated into the software so that the dive profile information can be configured to in the way that the research folks at DAN can use it for there purposes. did i loose you?

In any case i will be getting the detail next, and will post them after i get them.

To bad the contest didnt start now as by the end of next week i would have the first 10 out the door.

Well it got here last week but it's air only which is kind of useless to me. The upgrade plus DAN software would be $575 on top of the $100 worth of raffle tickets seems a bit much to get a DAN T-shirt and another from SD.
