While I am not accepting deposits yet...I will be soon. Just want people to know that we are going and the dates are FIRM!!!

Plus I need some feedback on the extra days of sightseeing...

1. Do you want them as part of the full pkg
2. or do you want them as an optional add-on?

Well, I guess it depends... Being that this will be a pricey trip, are there deals for a group rate on add-on land packages? This may a poll thing, but I'm thinking once we see all the details in getting there, everybody will want to add at least a day or two exploring the islands. I'm thinking this is a once in a lifetime trip, so no need to rush home. :-D

But then again, I don't think I'm interested in any of the mainland add-ons. I'd rather conserve my vacation time for other SD trips in 2008! :D

For those of you going, bring PolarTec for the SI because it can be cool out in the islands.
Pack light as the airline from Quito to the islands charges extra over 45 pounds. Hint, put the groups luggage on one cart and tip the baggage handler heavly and he may bypass the scale! We put in $10 to $20 each depending on how many bags we had.
There are no land tours on Wolf or Darwin but bring walking shoes for the other islands and dress in layers.
Because the sharks feed at night and help is a long way off most boats don't offer night dives so don't bother packing the big light.
Do bring safety sausage, mirror and strobe as help is a long way off. You'll need a good whistle to be heard over the birds.
Unless you are hot blooded don't buy the story that a 5 mil is enough, the one diver on our boat who did ended up borrowing a hooded vest.
You'll need tough gloves for hanging onto the rocks! This isn't the no touch Caribbean, find a spot, check for scorpion fish and morays and wedge yourself in, the sharks will parade by. Some use work gloves and then just leave them at the end of the trip.
In Quito don't go for the NYC style pizza, it isn't!
As Robin said, this is advanced diving and some boats won't take you with under 100 ocean dives. You are okay with being surrounded by hundreds of hammerheads during safety stops, right!?

The price is a good deal AND we'll have certain advantages since the boat is owned by a resident Ecuadorian company and licensed by Explorer Ventures. This will give us more flexibility in the face of changing legislation.

More to come soon...kamala

As far as prcing goes this boat is actually on the high side. But it's a brand new boat this year(2007) and was built for the Galapagos. I'm doing this boat a year before you guys will and I'm happy to be on it. Getting on any Galapagos boat during Whale Shark season isn't easy. I had my choose between this boat and another during June and picked this one even though it was a couple hundred more for a week. The trip doesn't include any airfare. Nitrox is extra and there is $100 Galapagos Park fee that everybody getting off a plane in the Galapagos has to pay. There is also fuel surcharges and port fees. This trip will run you $5k when you add it all up.(liveaboard, fees, tips, hotels, airfares, nitrox, etc...) You will need to stay on the mainland at least one night before and probably one night after as well in order to make flights. That being said you should plan to go and start saving now.

And the SD price seems to be $200 more than Explorer Ventures published price for the same time.

Hmmm, the published price on their website is $3695 for 2008 which is our price as well

where do you see the price that's $200 more??

Thats not true Kamala had the price as $3695 which is the correct price for 2008. It's $3395 this year. However if you check either Peter Hughes or Aggressor they charge less for pretty much the same trip. This is a brand new boat and I'm sure cost a pretty penny. Very nice though.

Plus I'd be willing to bet that both Peter Hughes and Aggressor are already booked during the whaleshark season of 2008.
