I love the stuff, but I often wonder about the health issues. So what IS the real "scoop" on coffee consumption? Here's what I have heard and/or read about the stuff. Please feel free to comment...
PROS /good things I've heard
-tastes good (at least to some folks)
-provides energy
-increases mental clarity and physical endurance
-warms you up on a cold day
-when used as before exersize, it releases stored fat to be burned for energy
-speeds digestion
CONS/bad things I've heard
-stains your teeth
-leaches vitamins and/or minerals from the body
-interferes with digestion
-causes blood sugar levels to peak and then crash
-causes the body tissues to become too acidic
-hard on the kidneys/liver
Thanks all!

I used to drink 3 pots of coffee a day...yep POTS! Now I am entirely caffeine free and I have more energy then I ever had from the caffeine. Plus I wake up at the same time every morning without an alarm clock AND I only need water to get me going in the mornings. Since Osteoporosis runs in my family...as does almost every major ailment...my gene pool looks like a cesspool...I feel 200% better about my chances of avoiding bone loss.

I find it amazing that so many people need a drug to wake up in the morning.

I carry DeCaf on dive boats to help warm up, never real.
Except - if I have a headache, I'll use real with aspirin, as it makes it work better...
Yeah I know: I've been branded a non-group person - doesn't play well with others. I am so upset. Let me know if you want to have some fun, without the drama - I'm good for that.

Was that a stone that just hit my glass house???It is cute, but it's an example of drug dependency which actually makes it less cute.
Didn't you tell me you were once a caffeine addict, too, Darling?
Don't be too hard on us java junkies, please It's a hard habit to break.
I do agree it's an addiction, but it's not like were're doing coke or heroin here!

Was that a stone that just hit my glass house???
Nope. You are well aware of your addiction,
, I was merely pointing out a manifestation of it that isn't as cute as it first appears.Got a java monkey on my back!
Didn't you tell me you were once a caffeine addict, too
No. I told you I once drank coffee. It was never a regular thing for me. Never more than about once a week (if memory serves, it was a long time ago), although I did use it for the drug effect from time to time.
Don't be too hard on us java junkies, please
Was I hard on you? I wasn't trying to be.
It's a hard habit to break.
I know, yet I walked away cold turkey with no regrets over 26 years ago, which is another reason I suspect I wasn't addicted. The only side effect is coffee now smells very bad.

I drink 3 cups a day while I work on the computer in the AM. I think I've seen reports that say that is an acceptable amount if you're not willing to go caffeine free. It is a drug, as is chocolate (well, what it contains). There are some drugs I can't seem to resist (and they're all legal!).

I've tried water to wake up. Why do I need help waking up? Insomnia. My most restful sleep comes just at the time I have to rise to prepare for my workday. (I'll get up for an early dive, though)
Anyway, just one or two cups and I'm good for the day. Some day, I'll bite the bullet and get off of it for good!

being ADHD, l find that a quad vanilla latte once or twice a day is a darn good way to self-medicate...sure beats the pharmacutical option. l tried to read up on ADHD to find other options, but l got bored.
