Of course being away from our crystal clear tropical waters in SoCal, I'm probably going to be itching for a few dives while I'm there. Anyone out there interested in the possibility of doing a few dives with yours truly? Preferably on a low budget so shore diving would be just fine.

Shore diving sucks.
I'll treat you to a boat dive up this way. It would be worth it for me to get a dive buddy that is surely a hundred times better than the average insta-buddy. I am 50 miles north of Miami. Sometimes I go to Key Largo to dive.
Send us the exact date(s) that you would want to dive.

Shore diving in southeast Florida ? Have you tried that ?

I beg to differ. I go shore diving every weekend off of Lauderdale by the Sea. I like my 2.5 hrs of bottom time per dive studying(avocation) the fish, ID'ing the different sharptail eels, feeding the octo my leftover lobster etc etc etc. I dive solo at my own pace & rarely have a boring dive. Not that I don't enjoy my deep boat dives, but I find my chance to wait 30mins in one spot for that manta to swim by (& he did) a special at peace time. Heh I'm under the water that's all that matters.
So, Dr Bill, If you have time for boat & or shore diving my way let me know the dates I'll probably be in town (although I do admit to more boat diving late fall & winter as the water temp drops to ~73-75 degrees & I do hate wearing more than a lycra for beach dives -you know that weight thing I have to add when I wear a wetsuit !)

Nothing wrong with shore diving. Although when i can get on a boat I do.
I've done plenty of shore diving here, but, yeah, I like the boat dives better. When you try to dive every weekend, charters can get pricey. I just need "perfect" conditions for shore diving - I'm spoiled. For $3 in quarters for parking and a nitrox fill, that 2 hr bottom time works pretty well on a nice day.
This weekend it's going to be 2 ft or less. I'm doing the Dania Beach Eurojacks with a couple of dive buddies on Sat. I haven't done that one in about 2 yrs. Deb, or anyone, want to join?

Can't go this weekend to Dania but have you ever done Blue Heron Bridge. I'd like to do that sometime.

The Blue Heron Bridge is the most awesome shore dive! The only "catch" is that you need to plan entry 1/2hr proir to high tide. No biggie. The depth is 20' max and you should see plenty of life. Frog fish, decorator crabs, octopus, starfish galore, lobster are among the local residents. There are plenty of local "guides" with the local knowledge to enhance your experience if you wish. It is a short ferry ride to Peanut Island or 1 mile to the Tiki Bar or... I could go on... Zach

I haven't done the Blue Heron bridge. The timing of the high tide is what throws me but I hear the currents and the vis are less than optimal if you don't respect the tides.

...But if you do it right (not so hard) it is crystal clear...

Blue Heron bridge is the ugliest most interesting dive site in the world. I drive from Melbourne (1 hr 45 min) to do a one tank 90 minute dive at Blue Heron bridge. Every dive at Blue Heron is an adventure. I either see something new, something interesting, or something amazing whenever I go. I haven't seen a Frog fish, but I've seen everything else Zach mentioned... including Star Gazers, Snake Eels, Bat fish, Sea Robins, and more... I have a few pictures of my BHB dives at : http://picasaweb.google.com/aascuba
