Here's an interview technique guaranteed to land jobs
Staff Writer, Career News

LOS ANGELES, CA -- Diligent job seekers spend hours creating resumes & cover letters, searching through job postings, reviewing classifieds and networking -- all in order to get an interview. Yet most of them don't spend nearly enough time learning what to do when they get one! And with the job market as competitive as it is, you just can't afford to blow an interview.

The skills needed to do the job and the skills needed to get the job are two completely separate things. Even in today's competitive job market, the most qualified person rarely gets the job. Additionally, interviews are harder to get then before. When the job market was booming it took an average of 3 interviews to get 1 job offer. Now it takes 17. The key is have a great interview, where the interviewer actually pictures you doing the job.

The secret is to provide them with an overview that shows you have already taken the job and what you will do when you hit the ground running. This forces them to picture you in the job and want to hire you. Think how you would feel if someone was interviewing with you and showed how they could make an immediate impact.

Now why in the world would I want to land a job. Jobs mean W-O-R-K. Jobs mean kowtowing to a boss who generally knows next to nothing about what is supposed to be done. Jobs mean dealing with a bunch of unproductive folks who expect you to carry the load. Jobs mean having to drink horrible coffee during those ten minute breaks. Jobs mean not getting to SCUBA dive very often.

Oh, now I remember... jobs also mean a paycheck (which you'll eventually lose when you tell the boss to "take this job and shove it").

How true! here are a collection of excuses from my year in Cairo why "unproductive folks" didn't turn up to work or deliver:

It was too hot
I was tired
I sold my car
My mother is visiting
I didnít sleep
I had a sore arm (so couldn't type the expected report...)
I had no water this morning
Öand finally, the best: The President had a meeting in town we took the day off to avoid the traffic

I hope the work ethic is better in Abu Dhabi... And some jobs gets you access to great diving at the weekend Dr Bill ;-)

I wish I knew my secret, I could write a book and make millions. I have not once ever been turned down for any position I have been interviewed for.

I guess I just ry to present myself as the best person they have ever seen while seeming real. That and the fact I am 6'4" and have a crushing handshake puts the interviewer into submissive behavior :cheerleader:

I think what you have to remember is that a job interview goes both ways and to listen to the what the interviewers are telling you about the position. Its easy to get caught up that I need to find a job and miss the fact that the job may not be what is advertised.

Here is good one that I once heard as an excuse for why he was late ...

My car had four flats on the way to work ...

This was actually used on my dad when he was a field superintendent at a gas compressor station in the 70's. Of course, my dad did not buy it!
