Back at work, oh Happy Day.

Ate the last night at Carumbas, north side of town second street from beach. Big neon sign out front, hard to miss. AIR CONDITIONED. They brought chips and cerviche to the table instead of bread. The conch strips on the appetizer menu were real tough. I had a Mayan combination (days special), shrimp, fish, and lobster, in a brown sauce. Very good. This was the only place I saw where the waiters wait out in the street trying to entice you into their restauant like they do in the plaza at Cozumel.

Leaving Ambergris Caye/Belize. I used Tropic Air for the hop from AC to Belize City. They have an air conditioned waiting room. Check in takes 30 seconds, and they give you a colored plastic Boarding Pass. You give it back as you board the plane and they re-use it. You don't have to get there much more than 10 minutes before your flight. There is nothing for them to do, the airport is just a small double wide trailer, with a bathroom. The flights I observed left right on time. They use Cessna 1000 Caravans, 10 seats. They didn't weigh my bags or anything.

Samuel Goldsen airport in Belize City is faily nice once I got to see it in the daylight. Normal type check in area. There is an open observation deck, and a restaurant upstairs. Small souveneir shops, and a very small food concession. They are expanding. I don't think they could handle more than 1 plane at a time, although the Tropic Air and Mayan Airways puddle-jumpers are in and out all the time. When you get to the BZE from AC, they will bring your bags in. You give them your baggage tickets, and they will place them on a luggage belt. He stands on one side of a rope barrier, and puts the bags on the 30' long conveyor. You stand on the other side and get your bags after they move the 30' between you and him. Then you go out the door, walk to the right, and go back in to the ticketing area to check in for your outbound flight.

Once you check in, go to the departure area it is quieter and cooler. They have a bar and a souveneir shop, and a couple of duty free shops in departure area. You can't take your liquids into the departure area, as you do have to go through an x-ray and a metal detector just like in US.

Let me know if there is anymore info you are curious about. For those going next month I am already jealous!
