Note: Found this on the net. It has no source (AP, Reuters, etc) so I am not sure how much credence to give this. Offered "as is"

I did find this link here.

JAPAN's diplomatic representative to Fiji is concerned about the increase in crime in Fiji since the military took control.

Masashi Nakamena, who is in Tonga for the 38th Pacific Islands Leaders Forum, believes home invasions are out of control and he is worried about the safety of his people in Fiji.

"The crime situation is what we tell our people visiting Fiji to be very careful about and to take extra care.

"Our warning on this supersedes any advisory that was issued on the situation following the coup," Mr Nakamena said.

Police say they are dealing with it as best as they can but that is insufficient.

Mr Namekawa is hoping this serious matter will be addressed immediately by relevant authorities if there are any.

Amazzing, when I was there in 2005 the big news item was someone had written anti-Indian remarks on a school wall.

Just returned from a week in Fiji -we were on a boat no issues - Suva has been hit very hard from this - tourism down and the town is really hurting - we were in town for a couple hours and out at night - we had no issues and the Fijians were as great as ever to us.

I agree. I had my favorite pair of sandals stolen in Bonaire. Nothing ever happened to me in Fiji.

Then again I haven't been to Fiji yet... :teeth:
