H2O Addict and I took a group of six beginning divers on thier checkout dives yesterday in Key Largo. She was the Instructor and I was the DM. It was a great day to be on the water, as the water temp was 84, the sun was shining and the seas were calm. I told the class that they were lucky to be doing their checkout dives in a marine santuary as other beginning divers up north were doing their checkout dives in cold, dark water.

Our first dive was at Minnow Caves, a fun 20' dive. As we were doing some skills in the sand, there was a Skate Ray swimming around. After the skills were completed, we went on a tour. Went though Minnow Cave, which was packed with thousands of Minnows in the warm water. It was fun to see their reaction to the cave and the minnows. We also saw a fairly large Black Grouper, a nice school of Midnight Parrotfish and a sizeable Snapper.

For the second dive, we were at the City of Washington wreck site on the Elbow Reef. This is a wreck from the 1920s that is all broken up in 30' of water. As we were getting in a semi-circle to do some more skills, a fat nurse shark swims right by the group. We then go on a tour and we find a second nurse shark. We go a little further and there is a Goliath Grouper.

It was a fun day to be on or under the water. I had just as much fun as the beginning divers.
