Also you have the Tortugas trip leaving from the Keys in July too. Perhaps something for 2009 or 2010? Might be an alternative to the NC Wreck trip?

Is anyone planning on going to Wreckfest this August in Key Largo? I went last year with my good buddy Curtis but his anniversary and birthday fall during this years event and I can't count on buddying up with him. I'm not sure what days I'll be going or what package (1,3,6 or 9 days) I'll be diving but I'd like to be there for the 2nd weekend. I was at last year's event and I consider it the best dive trip I've taken. There is more info here: http://www.silentwor.../wreckfest.html
And few buddys and I are planning on going down for the weekend dives...
Everything is a double drop, so there are recreatoinal/low end tech & full tech options between the two boats.....

Yep...lots of choices here but a great idea to look at in the future.

I haven't decided yet - it will depend on how much gear I have to carry down there for my class (not sure if I will have room for doubles, etc). I suppose I could rent them. Also, there is a very slim chance that my wife will be with me, which would dictate a more recreational type of profile. Some friends and I were batting the idea around, but I think we may have opted for the Oriskany instead. I'll have to check with the guys and see what dates we have locked in. Will you be in the Tech 1 range?

Looks interesting!! Do you have to be wreck/cave certified, I have my advanced open water and nitrox, would that be enough? Depending on the dates the 3day would be do able! I didn't have a chance to read all about it... does the money cover air?
You'll be fine. You need to be advanced at a minimum. I'm not sure about air or tanks...don't remember. I used their tanks on some dives and Curtis' on others. But, they'll rent you anything from an AL 80 with air to doubles with Trimix and an AL 40 deco bottle with 50/50.

I will be down there that week (Aug 2-10) with a Certification class, but diving a little further south with Conch Republic Divers. My plans are not firm yet, but it looks like I may be there the whole week - not sure if I can break away for a Wreckfest dive, but will do my best if it works out. I might be interested in a dinner/HH type of gathering, though.

They have nightly seminars after the diving at the Holiday Inn in Key Largo. Last year they had JJ and Casey McKinnley with the WKPP talk about the tie in between Wakulla and Turner as well as their exploration of wrecks in Scandinavia (Battle of Narvik). The also had many other speakers that were very very interesting (USFW, FWC, etc.). This year they have add a lot more speakers and groups (PADI, TDI, Hollis, etc.). Last year was mainly just GUE/WKPP/Halcyon people. It was great diving with them. I was one of the few that wasn't on the WKPP team there.

VADiver, Let me know if you come to Pensacola to dive the Oriskany. I can help with any details and know most of the boats/captains/shops here. Would love to meet another SD'er!Some friends and I were batting the idea around, but I think we may have opted for the Oriskany instead. I'll have to check with the guys and see what dates we have locked in. Will you be in the Tech 1 range?

I'm doing an Isle Royale liveaboard (cold water natural wrecks) the weekend of August 21-26th but that sounds cool. I'll have to let my fossil diving work counterpart in Detroit know about that one.
I guess I have a pretty busy August too:-)
