Canon powershot. HELP!!!

The housing is great, but now the camera has just quit working!!
Now I get a jumble of bright lines across the preview screen, and the shots are the same jumble. Can this be repaired? If so can it be repaired before friday? I can find a working camera on ebay for cheap, but there is no guarantee that I can get it sent to me on time.
Can anyone here please help? I just hate it when stuff craps out at the last minute.

I have a Canon Powershot A75. Not a high end model to be sure, but I inerited it from my boyfriend when he got a newer one, so it cost me nothing. It worked just fine for close up shots, so I decided to purchase a factory UW housing for it for the upcoming Bonaire trip.

Sounds like the problem might be a bad CCD. I don't think there is an easy fix if it's the CCD.

Oh I know what a CCD is. As a physicist I have used special x-ray CCD's for spectroscopy. Since the screen still works for menu items I am afraid you're right.
What irks me is that I just gotten the housing (spent $200 with shipping and weight kit) and test fit to the camera. Everything fit perfectly and then the camera quit immediately afterward. X(

Irksome, but not surprising. The CCD defect can be triggered by humidity. When you submerged the case to test it, the sudden increase in humidity triggered the problem.

Did you re-Format the card? I think that formating on your PC is better.
Did you try another card?
Can you exchange the housing? I like my Canon power shot a lot, but I am kinda surprised that you spent that kind of money on one for a 3 mp out of warranty camera. Walmart.com has several the A470 - 7 mp on clearance for $115, PowerShot A580 - 8 mp for $133.
I bought the extended warranty on my Canon before I bought the housing, but that was not such a great idea. It seems that they'd refund my money on the camera rather than fix it.

Yeah I know: I've been branded a non-group person - doesn't play well with others. I am so upset. Let me know if you want to have some fun, without the drama - I'm good for that.

Not much help for your current trip but they will fix it for free. Seems like it took 3 to 4 weeks...

Nope. It died before I even had a chance to test it in the water. :/

This is extremely basic and perhaps no help, but...?

I'll try that. How do you reformat the card??

I had a similar problem with a Canon and they repaired it for free - here's a page with info:

Thanks. That way the new housing won't be a waste. But then A75's are pretty cheap on ebay. I'm tempted to get another one as a spare.
In the meantime I still have my old film camera to get by on.
Thanks everyone for your help!!

Try the format function on the camera first. I don't know what hardware you have for your card, but if you have a card read, right click and select format. This is extremely basic and perhaps no help, but...?

I take it you did not try another card?
I'm tempted to Ebay my A540 & housing and upgrade to the A580 and an Ikelight housing as Canon doesn't seem to make one for the A580.
