Diving with mermaids........

For those of you who aren't aware, Weeki Wachee Springs is known for its mermaids. Wearing mermaid tails, very skillful young women, perform daily underwater shows with various themes. This has been going on since at least the '50's. I'm amazed at how long they can go between breaths, how well they swim in the mermail tail, their buoyancy control (with no buoyancy aids) and their ability to swim against a strong current. All of this is with no masks.
We geared up and started to explore the area in which the shows take place. We had a young (15 years old with 150 logged dives) lady, Kim, join us for the dives. It was interesting to explore the natural atrea as well as look at the props, staging area and alterations made for the show. We could look into the spectator arena.
Everyone is required to be out of the water 30 minutes prior to the show, so we dried off and watched the show, The Littlest Mermaid. and returned for a second dive after. While I didn't actually dive with mermaids from the show, divegirlzoe, Sharon and Kim certainly qualify.
Dive 1 - 49 feet for 25 minutes
Dive 2 - 49 feet for 20 minutes.
We had a blast!

I hate it when that happens. I was out of the water for a month prior to this weekend. That's extremely rare for me.

Did Walter tell you that the mayor of Weeki Wachee is also a retired Mermaid?
THe beauty of the park is that it is so "untouched".
The spring has the most awsesome vegetation growing. IT is unlike any other dive I have ever been on!
Oh also Kim the 15 year old has dove all over the world! Her 100th dive was on the great barrier reef! Of course both her parents are diving doctors!
Hmmm - I think I am jealous!

Oooh maybe we can ask her parents to be part of a new database we are creating called DivingDoctors.com? It is not up yet but our idea is to be a database of diving doctors and healthcare professionals that people can access. We also see the site becoming a place for continuing education opportunities for medical professionals who want to dive and keep up with CME and CEU's etc.Oh also Kim the 15 year old has dove all over the world! I'm going to be in the area in late July, with my daughter's family, and this show is high on our list. I called ahead about getting permission to dive there, and they said I had to go thru a local dive shop. Any suggestions...?
thanks, don
Yeah I know: I've been branded a non-group person - doesn't play well with others. I am so upset. Let me know if you want to have some fun, without the drama - I'm good for that.
