Well I picked up my new rig yesterday. It is beautiful! It is an aluminum, black bp, weighs a few pounds. The girl in the shop recommended packing the bp w my clothes, since they don't weigh as much. Then I wouldn't have to buy a new wing yet for traveling. Has anyone traveled like that?

:D

Well, I just got off the phone with Bill of OTW Divers and he says that I am all set to go. That to thread the cam bands through the wing then through the plate and back through the wing and that it holds better than using the STA.

Thanks Bill! Looking forward to trying it out this weekend!

A BP/W is intended for doubles. The bolts from the doubles go through the doubles bands, then through the wing, and finally throught the BP. Wing nuts are then used to secure the ends of the bolts. The wing nuts and bolts generally are supplied with the tank bands, not the BP/W.

For a single tank shorter bolts are usually used going through the single tank adapter (STA) then the wing and BP, and secured with the same type wing nuts. In this case the bolts and nuts come with the STA.

If you don't have an STA, you can get by with the cam bands holding the package together, but I would suggest getting an STA and the right bolts and nuts which will be more secure, i.e. less movement of your tank. You'll enjoy the solid feeling once you experience it.

While it sounds like your harness fits well, you can probably tighten it up a bit and that will also reduce movement of the equipment on your back. Once you get it right you'll wonder how you ever put up with all the flopping around you had with your old BC.

That depends on the BP, my FredT SS and DSS Kydek plates work fine without any STA, no flopping and the tank is closer to my back.

This is what Bill recommended with this OMS BP/Wing too. I am trying it in the pool tomorrow. Stay Tuned!

For me as well. I have a DR setup, and the tank is more secure without the STA. Saves some money and airline wieght when traveling... :wakawaka:

Let us know how the poolsessions work out. See if you can borrow an STA and try it both ways.

Unfortunately, no STA at my dive shop.

But I did hop in the pool with it..Here were my thoughts

1) I like it much better than my jacket BC. Really psyched about diving it in Roatan at the end of the month..

2) Tank held tight to my back, no sway. The only thing was that my harness seemed to loosen up a bit after being wet for a while, but I was able to cinch it up no problem.

3) In the pool with a full tank I was negatively bouyant with no additional lead. I am curious to see how it will be in salt water.

4) Given the light suit I will be diving in Roatan, do you guys have a pad on your backplate? I am thinking it might be a good idea.

Overall I am happy with the purchase. Next steps are to try it in doubles (being delivered to our field office next week!), and to actually take it on a trip..

I have dove my unpadded backplate with a thin wetsuit in warm water and constantly in the pool (average about 2-3 days a week) without issue because of how the plate indents away from the back.

You don't need a pad, I dive in warm water without a wetsuit and it's fine.

I purchased some very simple single tank adaptors, that allow you to swap out from single to double in 1 min, and it's not a lot of extra weight to carry. and it does hold the tank very secure. http://www.scubatoys...le_Tank_Adapter or if you want
you could use http://www.scubatoys...teelTankAdapter

I have a pocket similar to an MQ pocket, but it is a convenient place to stuff a lift bag. I don't think it affects comfort in any way.

I found that switching to the BP/W reduces my weight requirements in all configurations salt/fresh, etc.

Well, for the Roatan trip I dove my wing. And I love it. I have dropped 8 lbs in weight and its working out well. Still need to find a good way to attach the OMS pocket, but other than that It worked well. About my only difficulty was when I got pinched between the boat ladder and the BP. That hurt.

Now its onto doubles. I pick them up tonight. Twin 72s. Just need to find a buddy to go dive them..

They make a pocket that slides over the 2" webbing.. it can hold up to 5 lbs of weight.

I own 2 and love them.
