I tried to insert a picture into a thread post yesterday, but was informed by the website that I did not have permission to do so. After searching this forum for information, I found nothing to help since the new site upgrade in March 2008.

What is the process to put an image into a thread as I have seen in many other threads? Trying the button required a URL. Is that the only way? I see an attachments section under this typing box, but it's not there when you are replying to other posts in threads. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks in advance,
Robin

PS this is the image from Andamans I tried to put in.... as a test

We will alert Admin to respond to this. I have found various image uploading issues in the past involving either member permission issues (Premiere Members have some additional image uploading capability) or forum permission issues (some forum may not allow for uploaded images).

Hi Robin,

Which thread were you unable to post in? The picture appears fine so it is not a format issue.

Let me know and I will look into this for you. :)

Simon,

It was in the Octopus thread. Interestingly, the posting screen for the "open new thread" had a place below the place to type your reply for browsing and uploading the attachment into the thread, which is what I did on the first post in this thread. In the Octo thread, the reply page did not have the attachment options in place under the spot for typing the reply, just like in this thread. I see that other people can post images into their replies, and wonder why I can't do it too.

Thank you for attending to my problem.

Robin

Simon, I went into the Octo thread and clicked post a reply. I was able to see an attachments option below where you type yoru reply which sounds as though differs from what secretsea18 sees (or doesn't see I should say).

I am working on this. I just waiting on Wenchie for a command decision on how to structure this. As soon as I hear I will post.

OK, the confusion here comes from the security settings which are set to allow in some areas and deny in others. In this thread (Site Support & Help) and a few others, we allow members to post images as sometimes we need to see a screen shot of an issue to help solve it. However, the ability to post an image in other threads is usually reserved to Premier Members only. I included a link below to take you to the Membership Levels outline which says what you can do.

Membership Levels Explained

So in this case the security is working correctly. Sorry it could not be better news.

This thread/forum is special and all members have permission to post images here as I explained previously so we can troubleshoot problems. Who starts a thread has no bearing on the ability to post in it. That is pulled from other areas. :wakawaka:

Please consider upgrading to a premier member. Its only $35 a year of which you'll get at least $25 back after any trip and you get a host of other benefits not to mention helping to keep a great site like this one going! :teeth:

I had wondered (as noted in my first post above) if it was due to a membership level issue... While I see the answer to the issue was perhaps not the one you were seeking, it does reinforce many of the benefits associated with Premiere Membership on the site. Premiere Membership fees assist in the continuation of this community and WreckWench makes every effort in return to make the money spent worthwhile to the Premiere Member. Premiere Members benefit in the extra forum benefits and by receiving a $25 to $50 off every trip you take with SingleDivers.com during your active membership period. If you take more than one trip within 12 months, you actually earn money!

Regardless, however, of any member's membership level we are so happy to have such wonderful members in our community!
