Refresher Training aka SCUBA review

My daughter (Sara_the_brown if you didn't know) did some diving this summer on a cruise, and gained another bunch on the SD Flower Gardens trip.
My son on the other hand has been out of the dive game for better than a year, so we're heading to the pool for a refresher (and resize HIS BP/W that I always use )
Easy enough for my family, since the old guy is current, insured and does them for free for the kids, but it would normally be $50-$100 from most LDS.
Question for the group - how long is too long out of the water before you owe yourself a refresher? (PADI calls them SCUBA reviews - and yes, full disclosure, I do sell myself if you want one)

So, I'm gathering the entire gene pool, plus two non-diving wus SOs (don't tell SWMBO I called her a wus) - for a winter break trip to Coz....

I think it depends how much experience you have prior to the time out of the water? Somebody who dives on a cruise once a year probably could use one every time. Somebody who regularly does 100 dives a year can probably take significant time off and come right back to it. But I still like to do that pool/shore dive just to check weights and make sure everything is working prior to that first time out on the boat.

Depends on the person, their experience level and how conscientious a diver they are. If away for a year then it is a good idea to take a refresher. If nothing else you are in a controlled environment with a pro if anything goes wrong. You may even learn something new.ow long is too long out of the water before you owe yourself a refresher?

I learned more on my fourth dive trip - in the Dry Tortugas than any trip before. Practice makes perfect I guess...just have to figure out a reasonable way to practice when you're landlocked.
Since I will have been out of the water for 5 months when I go on the Grenada trip in December, I will at least sign up once for time in a local dive shop's pool, don't feel the need for someone to guide me, just want some practice time before I'm out in the ocean.
