Ambergris Cay "Better Belize-It Baby Belize" Update:
Resort Info: We will be staying at a lovely resort The Tides Beach Resort located on Ambergris Cay, Belize. It is a small new resort with diveshop on premises & accommodates a maximum of about 20 rooms and guests. We will only have 12 people on this trip to start but should be able to get more rooms if needed! Each room has it's own bathroom (with hot and cold water), a/c, a king size bed or 2 double beds, verandah, fridge, ceiling fan(s), etc. All rooms have direct access to the beach, dive shop, the Frijoles bar, easy access to town and activities.
How to Book: SD honors a first come and first served premise that is driven by posting in our community. WHAT YOU'LL SEE:
We have 50 to 60 local dive sites in San Pedro, including a marine reserve, name The Hole Chan. We offer 2 tank dives (same day ), 1 tank dives and night dives. We also offer day trips to the Blue Hole and Turneffe Islands. And we are pleased to work with SingleDivers.com to explore the northern end of the island for new dive locations.
SCHEDULED ITINERARY
While YOUR personal Belize Experience may vary due to weather and conditions, the outline below will give you a good feel for the exciting week in store for you!
Days Prior to start of our trip: If you wish to arrive early or want to combine other diving adventures in conjuntion with this one let us know. We can add days to the FRONT or the END of your week as well as several days of local siteseeing on Ambergris Cay or other parts of Belize and Guatemala.NOTE:
May 2 Saturday: You will fly into Belize City BZE and then catch a local flight generally every 2 hours to Ambergris Cay to San Pedro airport. The local flight is less than an hour and you'll need some time at the airport to catch the flight as well as allow time for your luggage to be transferred to the flight. (We'll have a list of flight times posted shortly for you to help with your planning.) From the San Pedro airport we'll travel by truck/carts to the resort. The resort is on the water and very close to town.
May 3rd Sunday to May 7th Thursday: These 5 days will be our group package 2 tank dives in the morning off the boats. There is no shorediving due to the frequent boat travel of the local water taxis that run on the hour up and down the island. Breakfast is included daily (we can include lunch or allow you to be on your own for lunch and dinner) you can then take a quick siesta, shop, relax or we can arrange an afternoon boat dives for $45 then off to the beach bar Frijoles after the day is finished. Dinner is on your own in one of Belize's MANY AND DELICIOUS eating establishments and follows Happy Hour. Rooms come with a refrigerator for those that might want to hit a local grocery store. They are a bit pricey but for the light eater this is an option. An early evening for some follows dinner and socializing, some will want to do a night boat dive $50 and some will continue to enjoy the ambiance of the town or Frijoles Bar. All in all...it will be a ton of fun for a great price! And if you want to DIVE DIVE DIVE...say the word and we'll set it up!
May 8th Friday: Depending if we have slipped one of our pkg dives to do a day of far offshore diving at Blue Hole or Turneffe Reefs this day will either be the last day of your pkg or an optional day of diving for those wanting to do one of the exciting diving venues near the island of Ambergris Cay namely the famous Blue Hole or Turneffe's Reefs. Otherwise this day will be free for activities and sightseeing or just cleaning gear, packing or relaxing.
Other Activities: Throughout the week you can do local sightseeing and activities such as fishing or renting a golf cart and exploring the island. We will spend a great deal of time in town as we experience the wonderful culinary delights of Belizian food each night for dinner. At some time during the week we'll go to the orphanage or foster home and try to personally bring our school supplies to the children. These interactions with the kids are usually very moving and powerful...don't miss it! Since this will be our last night we'll have a group BBQ hosted by SingleDivers.com and Tides Beach Resort to celebrate the fantastic week of diving and fun!
May 9th Saturday: This is departure day and most flights back to Belize City will be early. You will arrive at the local airport, check in, get a boarding card and wait for the next arrival flight. A quick turnover and the plane will be ready for boarding to BZE. Do keep approx $32 for your exit tax out of the country.

DAYS AFTER MAY 9th: For those who opt for the add'l extra days your departure will vary but the process will be the same.
Boat Diving We'll dive on fully covered dive boats with most sites being 15-30 minutes away. Some of the new exploratory sites will be closer to 45-60 minutes since we are close to town. However the tradeoff is walking distance to town...or 5 minutes boat rides. Most prefer the longer boat ride and the flexibility of being closer to town and activities. For those not sure what we mean when we say we are going to do some exploratory dives we mean we will literally go to some parts of the reef that the dive operator has NEVER been to before. We'll be looking at terrain that has either NEVER been dove before or very very infrequently. The sites we will go to will not have names...so maybe we'll end up naming an amazing site or two ourselves!

VISA INFORMATION:
Belize is a country that is easy to fly in and out of for Americans and most Europeans. You only need a passport for legal entry and exit.

1. School Supplies: As is our tradition we take school supplies on our trips to the under priviledged children of the countries we visit while diving and Belize is no exception! We will have at least one orphanage or foster home to bring relief to. One of the non-diving afternoons we will take whoever would like to join us and drop off the school supplies to the kids. I have seen grown men tear up at the look on their faces when the children see us they are so excited.
So PLEASE keep your eye out for school supplies on sale as these items are extremely expensive in the countries we visit. Remember a child can play with a can or a box and use great imagination pretending it is a castle, fort, car or space capsule. But they can not make do as well when they need school supplies so that they can learn and better themselves.

A. No, in fact we cater to married but buddyless divers as well as single not married divers. And we do have a few couples on our trips as well as friends, parent and older kid, etc.
