Last Wednesday 3rd December a team of Polish technical divers went to the bottom of the Blue Hole. I facilitated the trip and was with them, tho' I didn't go to the bottom.

Where they dived the bottom turned out to be at 355ft, quite a lot shallower than we were all expecting. Whilst there they found the body of a diver and recovered a camera nearby. Subsequent examination of the camera allowed a provisional identification as that of a doctor from Miami who was lost on a dive in August 2001.

The body was not recovered at that time and was left undisturbed where it lay. A recovery operation is now being planned. The authorities have apparently so far been unable to contact the family of the deceased, but they are still working on it.

Hopefully this will allow some closure for the family. My thoughts are with them and will all the divers involved in finding the body and the recovery. Most people don't understand what an impact something like this can have on all involved.

Please keep us posted on the diving aspect of the recovery. Thank you for the report.
As for me, I'm feeling pretty scubalicious.

Seven years is definitely a long time for closure. I'm glad they will have it. Thanks Peter.
