Like many other classics, this cocktail dates from the days of the American Prohibition when it was drunk from tea cups in an unconvincing attempt to fool the FBI that it was a harmless beverage. It started out life as a simple combination of vodka colored with a dash of cola, but has evolved into a more elaborate, but no less potent, concoction.
Serves 1:
10-12 cracked ice cubes, 2 measures vodka, 1 measure gin, 1 measure white tequila, 1 measure whte creme de menthe, 2 measures lemon juice, 1 teaspoon sugar syrup syrup, cola, top off, wedge of lime or lemon juice, to decorate
Put 4-6 cracked ice cubes into a cocktail shaker. Pour the voda, gin, tequila, rum, creme de menthe, lemon juice and sugar syrup over them. Top up with cola and decorate with the lime or lemon wedge.
NOW for those of you that like to really live dagerously.....
Artillery Punch.....Serves 30
Pour 1 3/4 pints bourbon, 1 3/4 pints red wine, 1 3/4 pints strong black tea, 17 fl oz dark rum, 9 fl oz gin, 9 fl oz apricot brandy, 4 measures lemon juice, 4 measures lime juice and 4 tablespoons sugar syrup in a large bowl. Refidgerate for 2 hours. To serve, place the punch over the ice and decorate with thinly sliced lemon and lime.
