There was an instructor on the Roatan trip last year, and several got Nitrox certified while there. I don't know if an instructor is lined up for this trip yet or not. I did my Nitrox classroom work this winter & just did the checkout dives in Ft. Lauderdale on 5/1 and 5/2, so I'm ready! You're in Florida, right? Plenty of time to get the class done, if we won't have an instructor in Roatan. WreckWench will post about instructors for this trip when she surfaces - she's got a very busy May going!

There is almost always a trip instructor on sd trips, especially big trips like this, but we will let you know as soon as that is determined. BUT, my suggestion would be to get it out of the way before you go if possible. You always think you're going to have so much time, but it usually doesn't work out that way. I guess it just depends if you want to spend some of your vacation time doing classroom or not. We have great instructors though, if you choose to do it on the trip. :teeth:
As for me, I'm feeling pretty scubalicious.

The other thing is that the Nitrox class requires 0 dives, so doing it at home prior to the trip is much easier than other classes that require dives. I know in my case we bought the book & video, watched it and did the homework. The class itself lasted one night with us reviewing the bookwork, taking the test and doing some hands on time analyzing tanks with a variety of analyzers.

Zero dives, through which agency? SSI required me to do checkout dives to get my Nitrox cert.....

0 dives PADI

Actually NAUI was the first to require zero dives...PADI only recently followed. When I did my PADI nitrox it required dives. I like requiring dives for 2 reasons...one the instructors ensures that you do not exceed MOD and you get to analyize your tanks under supervision. I can't tell you how many divers have no idea how to use the analyizer on trips. I am happy to show them but I wonder if this could be avoided somewhat if the dives were required again. (Its one thing to practice in class...its another under real world diving conditions!) Thank you! kamala

I just booked my flights for this trip! :tears: Airfare was reasonable, and I wanted to get paid in time for the drawing for the ocean room - which was sweet last year! Time to get this affordable trip filled up. The trip was so much fun last year, it deserved a repeat visit! A very nice variety of reef, wreck and wall diving.

Please change me from Interested, to Going.
Double Occupancy
Nitrox package
Canopy Tour (prefer Friday, the non-diving day!)
Arrive 9/5, Depart 9/12, flight details will be on Survey
Survey & Waiver are on their way tonight
Check is in the mail!

Anybody else thinking about this trip? Continental flight from KC to Houston to Roatan was $601. If you live near a hub, your fare will even less!
