June 12th has come and gone , and if your still using a antenna to watch tv in the US your probably very familiar with the new digital signals. I live in a fringe area so I was worried that my TV reception was going to cut-off starting in April 2009 because thats when the analog stations where going to shut down. So in Feb and March of 2009 I was scrabbling to find the latest..greatest antenna that would pick-up the new digital signal. I was not alone, HDTV web sites started popping up all over the place. I started finding/reading alot of good info on todays top antennas and by simply reading reveiws I was able to make a good choice of antenna, so when that April deadline came... I was already ..ready. TV is a tool and I just wanted to watch my local stations to catch the latest weather info and current events etc... anyway I purchased a yagi style antenna with a 30 db booster and now I have more channels to watch then I had before the transtion.... and in HD quality :wakawaka:

Are you watching tv with an antenna ?
Are you interested in getting rid of those monthly Dish and Cable bills ?

If I can do it.. anyone can... I live 77.6 miles away from the nearest broadcasting tower !
Plus I get 5 more channels that are further away than that.

Bob,
Good question, I think they call it a Yagi because thats the name of the company or person who invented it ?. The Yagi is for picking up UHF signals only tho. It looks like a V but turned sideways.
If this link dosnt work you can look-up radio shack u-75r antenna on Google.
U 75R Antenna Link

If you or anyone else is interested in switching back over to the ole antenna days... but with Digital Quality you might want to enter your address or Long and Lat at this site... www.tvfool.com

depending on where you live, you could get free tv from a rabbit ear antenna. I just up-graded my Yagi style antenna to something that looks like a movie prop from a Lost In Space episode :)
its and Antennas Direct Model 91XG.

I hope this helps.

My big digital TV's are hooked up to the satellite, but I purchased a small 19" digital TV to put in my office at home -- so I could watch/listen to a favorite program while on the computer. In June, when I lost all signals, I finally figured out how to get the TV to search again for the signals. It came up with a bunch of new channels, BUT for some reason it can't find the 2 lower-numbered channels. Of course, one of those channels is the one I wanted to watch most often in there! The TV is hooked up to a digital rabbit-ear antenna.

So, any idea how I can get all the local channels to be "located" by that TV?

Bob,
You must live in a city that has a population of more than 15 people to get that kind of reception :)

Tammy,
After June 12th your favorite channel might have switched from VHF to UHF, The best thing to do is go to www.tvfool.com or www.antennaweb.org and put in your address or your GPS info (long and Lat) you can find your long and lat at google maps. After you find out want your Fav channel is broadcasting in..either VHF or UHF then you can choose the proper antenna. I prefer outdoor antennas because they provide the best coverage of available channels... here is a link to a outdoor antenna that is not such an eye sore and provides alot of coverage in VHF and UHF.

Tammy's Antenna
I hope this helps.

In the transition I lost CBS (Ch 2 locally), had NBC (Ch 4) go from excellent quality to intermittent and pretty much lost PBS (Ch 28 here). This has helped wean me off several of the shows I used to watch on CBS.

Good point, Dr. Bill! I am watching far less TV this past year than ever, because I've been finding other things to do. Maybe I'll just have to give up the last few programs, if I can't get the rooftop antenna working, that Bubski kindly pointed out.

Yes, watching less tv is better and not paying a monthly fee for Dish and Cable makes your Dive Booty account Bigger (not your booty bigger) :respect: But dont give up on your favorite channel..sense the 1950s most broadcasters used a VHF signal because it traveled farther. For example I have been watching a NBC program for almost 20 yrs on a VHF antenna and now that same NBC station has swithed to a UHF signal, so all I needed to do is get a UHF antenna then Shazam Law and Order is in the house :respect: It takes alittle research and a possible low cost antenna upgrade and you can be back to the 1950s in no time. Bill you live on a Island and antenna signals travel like sound does over water, you should be able to get 100 free channels because your so close to the cali shore ? unless you live on the back-side of the island and have a huge hill between you and cali..

I hope this helps.
