So your 100 miles from the nearest LDS and you have planned this diving adventure for months now. Every possible senerio has crossed your mind, as far as what could go wrong with your equipment during your diving adventure. You don't have the luggage capacity to carry everything on the list below or another complete set of diving gear so you are going to depend on your Save-A-Dive kit. You have three choices from the following list... tell us why you would choose the three listed below and why.

Extra

1. 1st stage.

2. 2nd stage.

3. O-Ring kit.

4. Primary, Secondary and Inflater hoses.

5. Complete Regulator Kit

6. Fin straps.

7. Mask straps.

8. Octo.

9. Fins.

10. Mask.

11. Computer Battery.

12. Hood.

13. Other ( please explain)

Well I'm the one with the HUGE red dive luggage. I took everything on my last dive but grabbed my 3mm wetsuit and left the 5mm behind in my closet. I FROZE. Even in June in Mexico. Oh well. I'm getting a second dive bag! Sorry - I'm no help :teeth:

You're limiting me to only 3 from the list?? There are 5 on that list that I always carry on every trip, but granted they are the smaller items and I must admit that so far, all of my diving has been done where an LDS is easily accessible.....

O-ring kit, extra fin straps, spare prescription mask, extra mask strap, and extra computer battery.

I think if I always dived in very remote places, I would invest in a spare first stage, second stage, inflater hose setup. I might have to wear some gear on the plane to meet luggage weight restrictions! Anybody ever seen a diver on a plane in their wetsuit & booties? :teeth:

For me, it would depend on whether I was diving on a liveaboard vs diving land based.

For a liveaboard, I'd take my spare regs, spare mask, spare fin straps, o-rings and maybe a wrench.

If I'm land based, then I don't worry about it as much because usually you can rent anything you need

Back up camera strobes, batteries and external hard drives for the computer. Oh.... you wanted to know about dive gear.... that would be a backup prescription dive mask (no extra strap needed, as it has one, and my regular one has a strap.... gotta conserve on luggage weight anywhere you can :lmao: )

I wouldn't worry much about a spare reg ... mine would be serviced and checked out by myself, being a tech that's easy :lmao:
O ring kit is a must
spare mask
other , 6 ft of parachute cord ... you can tie a fin on with it as well as many other uses
and Sha's wrench lol

Damselfish,
I cant join All Y'all In Coz, But adding a extra suit or layer to your dive kit can be the difference between an enjoyable and comfortable dive and miserable possibly dangerous dive. I once aborted a second dive because I got chilled on the first dive.. Sure I even payed some big bucks to take that six pack boat out in the Gulf 25 miles for a 2 tank dive and I thought a 3/2 would work, but if I only had a hood/gloves or a shorty to add to my suit, I could have made both dives safely. I think that's the whole Idea behind a Save-A-Dive kit right ?. So thermal protection shouldnt be discounted out of your diving kit. Paracute cord...thats a good Idea too !

bowjunkie,
Even that rubber hose the Tech Divers use is cheap and very handy for replacing straps and retractor cords etc.... My next trip I am taking a complete 1st and 2nd stage plus the regular stuff.

O-ring kits are a must...they are small and can fit inside anything. Zip ties and Duck tape are easy to store as well.
