I'm considering taking the PADI Rescue course and am looking at choices in the Denver area for the class.

One shop offers the course combined with extra DAN courses as the "Ultimate Rescue Diver" course. The other offers the Rescue class with AED & O2 certification just as the "ultimate" class does...but as I understand from a conversation adds in a amount of "paramedic" type information for accident assistance.

The "ultimate" course...provides certs in : PADI EFR (CPR & First Aid), PADI Rescue Diver, DAN DEMP (Dive Emergency Management Specialist) - Oxygen, Advanced O2, AED, Hazardous Marine Life, DAN On-site Neurological Assessment and three PADI Distinctive Specialties (Oxygen, AED and Hazardous Marine Life).

Any thoughts on one versus the other...all other things being equal (and as far as I can tell, they pretty much are)?

I did the standard PADI Rescue Course and it came with CPR AED & O2 certification plus Emergency First Reponder. If you have the time and money it wouldnt hurt to Super Size your training by taking the Ultimate Course tho. Every few years I go to my local ambulance dept and get a refresher course on CPR..Infant and Adult.

Rescue is the most challenging PADI class you can take IMHO. I think it is great you want to add more courses, but don't overload yourself unnecessarily.

If you feel you can handle the load then do it. However, taking your time and doing them as single courses with a pause in-between might let the knowledge sink in better. My 2 psi.

The rescue diver course can build your confidence as a diver (not super hero) but to have the knowledge to help make a difference in somebodies life on Sea or land..Lake or Pond etc.. UFan if you go thru the scenarios... when it comes to the Panic Diver scenario approach the Panic Diver and ask them where is your buddy is ?..sense it is not in the script, they will say I dont have a buddy.. Than say it... Louder... Where's Your Buddy ! Panic Diver says our You serious ? YES nobody dives alone ! Where Is Your Buddy?..this will help your Instructor understand that you are serious about being a rescue diver ..Not Just Holding the Card. Its a Great Course! I think any diver after 80 dives and is going on... should take it IMHO
