Day 1 - Saturday – May 29 - Departure
Depart New York this evening on your overnight flight to Egypt.

Day 2 - Sunday – May 30 - Cairo
Welcome to Egypt, the Land of Pharaohs! Upon arrival at Cairo International, you will meet with your escort and they will assist you with visa formalities. As you drive through Cairo, you will see some interesting ancient monuments. Arrive in the Giza area where the Great Pyramids are located. After check-in and sometime, to freshen up meet with your Egyptologist-guide to discuss the exciting days ahead. This evening you will be introduced to Egyptian cuisine as you enjoy dinner on a floating restaurant.

Day 3 - Monday – May 31 – Cairo
This morning you will view the masterpieces of ancient art in the Egyptian Museum of Antiquities, including the Mummies Room. The museum is home to the vast findings of King Tutankahmun's tomb and other important pieces of Egypt's history. After lunch visit Old Cairo including the citadel of Salah El Din built by the famous Arab Sultan, Salah El Din (Saladin), in the 12th century and the Mohammed Ali Mosque situated inside the citadel known for its alabaster wall. You will have sometime to shop at the Khan El Khalili Bazaar, known for its narrow alleys and hundreds of shops selling all types of Egyptian handicrafts, silver and gold jewelry, cottons, copperware and perfumes.

Day 4 - Tuesday – June 1 – Cairo
Today you will visit the Giza Plateau where stands three Pyramids, the greatest being that of Cheops. It took 100,000 workers more than 20 years to construct. Entrance into one of the pyramids will be included. Southeast of the Great Pyramids is the Sphinx, carved out of solid natural rock in about 2650 BC, a magnificent monument with the head of the Pharaoh and the body of a lion. Entrance into one (1) pyramid will be included. Continue to visit the first Pyramid ever built, the Step Pyramid of Zoser, in the Sakkara Complex. When Memphis was the capital of Egypt, during the Old Kingdom period, Sakkara was its necropolis. Spread over seven kilometers of desert, Sakkara is one of the most important archaeological sites in the world. Before returning to the hotel, you will make a stop at the remains in Memphis, the first capital of united Upper and Lower Egypt.

Day 5 – Wednesday – June 2 – Cairo/Luxor
Early this morning transfer to the airport for a flight to Luxor. Welcome to Luxor, the land of Ancient Thebes. This afternoon you will explore the East Bank of the Nile including the Temple of Luxor. Here, the Avenue of Sphinxes, famous for its artistic degree of uniformity, leads to the entrance of the temple where a seated colossus of Ramses II and a towering Obelisk sit. Continue to the Karnak Temple, one of the most impressive monuments of ancient art and architecture in the world. The carvings, which adorn all of the walls, depict the history and conquests of many of Egypt's Pharaohs. In the evening we'll experience a spectacular Sound and Light show at the Karnak Temple.

Day 6 - Thursday – June 3 – Luxor
Cross the West Bank to explore the Valley of the Kings that houses 62 tombs belonging to the Pharaohs of the New Kingdom, including the famous tomb of King Tutankhamen. Found intact and excavated in 1922 many of the tombs, carved out of the bedrock, still retain their original bright colors and fine relief's and scenes, thought to guarantee the safe passage of the Ka to the after life. Next, it is on to Deir El Bahri to visit the mortuary Temple of Queen Hatshepsut, considered being one of the finest buildings in Egypt.

Day 7 – 13 Friday – Thursday June 4 – 10 - Luxor/Hurghada
This morning leave Luxor for Safaga or Marsa Ghalib where you will board your live aboard boat your home for the next week. Dives this next week includes the best 3 sites in the area: Big and Little Brothers, Daedalus Reef and Elphinstone. The Brother Islands are the pinnacles of two undersea mountains rising from the depths of the abyss and are located about 60 miles offshore. Part of the Marine Park Islands National Park, these islands offer stunning wall diving, with the walls being covered in soft corals and forest of gorgonians, creating a kaleidoscope of ever-changing colors. They attract a diverse array of marine species and large pelagic. Large tuna, Jacks and Snappers cruise in the blue, accompanied by occasional Hammerheads, Silvertips, Silky, and Oceanic White tip Sharks and Mantas; even the rare Thresher Shark can be found here. Sightings of the Grey Reef Shark are almost guaranteed on the North and South Plateau of Small Brother. For the wreck diver, the wrecks of the Aida ll, an Egyptian supply vessel, and the Numidia, a cargo ship, lie on the walls of the Big Brother. Both are covered in a rich growth of soft and hard corals. Marine life includes a family of Napoleon Wrasse and Grey Reef Sharks. Daedalus Reef, also part of the Marine Park, is a large, oval reef with a lighthouse and is the furthest offshore reef in the Egyptian Red Sea. Its deep walls and drop-offs offer some of the most spectacular diving to be found. Daedalus has mountainous, pristine, hard coral formations. There is also a strong chance of spotting schooling Hammerheads, and Grey reef sharks. Elphinstone, with its shear walls covered in soft corals, offers a likely encounter with Oceanic White Tip Sharks.

Day 14 – Friday – June 11 – Hurghada/Cairo

6. 12-28-09 Due to some changes in security measures and administrative regulations with Air Egypt as well as proper submission to the American Embassy we will need a SCANNED COPY OF YOUR PASSPORT. 7. 12-28-09 I am getting info requests from so many sources that I have summarized them into ONE DOCUMENT. I believe this will suffice for the multitude of people who need your info to make this trip happen. The Diving and Info Summary Form document will be in our trips docs forum found here use the same password as you did for the survey and waiver. If you do not recall it please email angels@singledivers.com for the password.

This diving and info summary needs to be completed as soon as you can. It will be sent to 4 different entities that need this info and it contains info that exceeds what we collect on our survey. Plus I would feel better knowing you personally submitted the info as many of our repeat SD clients do not always update the survey rather using the old info from previous trips. 8. The Consulate Office of the Egyptian Embassy in DC says that your passport must be valid for at least 6 more months from date of entry and also have a blank page for stamping the visa in order for a US citizen to obtain an entry visa at a major port of entry.

The Red Sea is the Caribbean of Europe so gets TONS of new divers. As a result the dive guides are far more protective than most seasoned divers may be comfortable with. Also the itinerary that we are doing is some of the most pristine diving in the region and not as frequented by new divers. HOWEVER there can be current, sharks, and deeper dives in the marine parks where we will be diving so the following rules are strongly enforced:

1. No night diving is allowed. This also precludes afternoons too late in the day where you could lose appropriate sunlight. Therefore all dives must be completed timely and started timely to allow for 4 dives on non-transit days.

2. All divers must show a properly documented log book evidencing 50 dives or more OR in lieu of a logbook they must produce a certification card for DM/DiveCon, AI, or Instructor which require more than 50 logged dives to obtain regardless of agency.

3. There are NO exceptions to these rules. Please dust off your logbook and/or put one together to DOCUMENT at least 50 dives. Stamps from the destinations you have dove and dive buddy signatures are preferred.

Q. How will I know other members on the trip since I'm new and will we be sitting near each other on the plane?
A. I do not know where we will be seat wise but usually we are fairly close to each other however I have advised my air consolidator to book us wherever just get us our seat preferences. We will spend a lot of time in JFK and many will have a chance to get to know one another then...or at least make contact. The repeat SDer's of which there are quite a few on this trip will usually wear an SD t-shirt so they can be easily recognizable and of course I'm pretty good at recognizing people from their avatars if I don't know them already. I am ALWAYS in SD attire so pretty easy to spot! On this trip we will probably approach EVERY man wearing a diving shirt and ask them if they are part of our group and then ask them why they are not if they aren't one of the lucky 3 men on this trip so far!

Q. Int'l Baggage Limits & Codeshare with US Carriers for Egyptair?:
A. Go ahead and book your tickets with USAir, United, Continental and you will still get int'l baggage limits of #50/bag when you check in if you show them your int'l flight confirmation information since they all codeshare with Egyptair. (You'll have that information about a week before departure.)

Q. Time to arrive in New York PRIOR to your int'l flight?
A. You need to plan to be in New York at least 3 hrs prior to our flight which is at 6:30. It is not recommended that you cut this short for a variety of reasons including the long lines for int'l flight check-ins, the time needed to get your bags from the luggage conveyor and re-check them to the Egyptair flight, time needed in case your bags did not make the original flight. So please allow NO LESS THAN 3 HOURS before flight time and consider adding a bit of a buffer to this if you can.

Q. Can I have SD book my domestic ticket to New York so I can have int'l baggage limits as well as not have to stand in line to recheck my bags?
A. I just asked about add-ons and EgyptAir at this time is not offering any special fares from domestic US cities. If you book on Delta, US Air or United (and now Continental) they can inter-line your bags for you at checkin. EgyptAir is going through a few administrative changes – so the add-ons may get re-instated after the 1st of the year, just not sure yet. What this means is we could book the full ticket for you if you wanted us too possibly after the first of the year. Right now we can not.

Q. Can you guarantee me a window/isle seat on the group air contract?
A. Yes if we book sooner vs. later. Most group contracts are not certain of the final client names so do not book them until the last minute. The downside to booking your name on a seat too early is add'l cancellation fees apply but since this trip mandates trip insurance this is not as much of an issue unless you have to cancel for a non-covered reason. So if you supply us with your seat assignments we'll start booking your seats thereby ensuring you your seating preferences.

Q. Will the miles on Egypt air count towards frequent flyer miles?
A. Yes, they do. Egypt Air is part of the Star Alliance so they will most likely count on USAir but since Continental is joining the Star Alliance they may also count with them in the future.

Q. Are there any landbased tours included in the pkg?
A. YES...we have included the Light and Laser show in Luxor as part of the package. It is amazing and well worth the experience.

Q.Why did you add the land based tips into the pkg and not the diving tips?
A. When we went in 2007 the service we received from the time we landed at the airport until the time we left was nothing short of FIRST CLASS! We had personal escorts, guides, drivers and security details from start to finish. In the course of the two weeks we spent approximately $100-110 per person in small bills and we had to collect several times in the process from the members. The feedback given was to have them included in the pkg and have the trip leader handle them so anyone asking for tips would have to talk to me vs all of you. This year the tips are anticipated to be $130 per person and of course will only be disbursed if deserved and any unused tips will be credited back to the members.

Diving Tips are a more personal matter and typically done once at the end of the trip so we have left them within your purview.

Q. Why is trip insurance mandatory and when do I have to buy it?
A. Due to the price of this trip and the huge loss a member would face if they had to cancel due to accident, illness, death in the family etc. the trip requires trip insurance. You should buy it as soon as you can. Insurance is NOT retroactive and will exclude any ACTIVE pre-existing conditions. Say you had an old arm injury. You can get insurance as long as it has not flared up again. And if it does flare up after you get it then you are covered if it impacts your trip. However if it flares up BEFORE you get the insurance, even though the insurance is required...it will not cover the arm even if it keeps you from diving. So buy your insurance EARLY! NOTE: The last possible date to buy insurance is before the last payment is due so 90 days before the trip.

Q. How does SD.com handle a trip with obviously so many more men that women on it?
A. Its easy! We just make all the guys 'CABANA BOYS/MEN' and they will have a lady on each arm...and rotate often! Especially in Egypt they will tell the Egyptians several of the women are his 'wives' which will result in the Egyptian men not only respecting the women and backing off any advances but it will also garner respect for the men on the trip in a region of the world where multiple wives is a sign of social status. This worked extremely well on our last trip to the Red Sea where the women outnumbered the men as well as other trips where the guys are light in numbers.


Q. Is Nitrox Available?
A. Yes, and THE NITROX IS FREE~!!! assuming you are qualified to dive it of course! So get that cert on the trip or before and dive the good stuff for FREE!!!!!

No worries... the first one has int'l air from Cairo and domestic air in Egypt. The second only has domestic air in Egypt and NO INTERNATIONAL AIR FROM JFK. You will use this option if you are booking your own air.
