I'm looking for a lens for my Canon and thought of the 10-20 from Sigma http://www.amazon.co...ASIN=B0007U00XK
Problem is, on Ikelites housing / dome chart it says I can not use the zoom ring? So no zoom? What other lens in that price range might be good?
Thanks

Which model Canon? Do you want the lens to mount on the camera and to be usable in and out of the water, or to mount (externally) on the housing to augment whatever the camera has fitted?
I've never owned an SLR housing as I've no desire to risk my camera underwater. But I use compacts underwater and almost never touch the zoom control. As wide as possible. If I want to get closer, I get closer The friends I have who do serious (professional level) underwater photography ALL use prime lenses. Not a zoom amongst them. So why buy a zoom lens to use underwater?

you might want to consider the Tokina 10-17mm zoom. It is a fabulous lens, comes in the Canon flavor, and it is one of the highest rated WA lenses for UW use.
You also might want to look at prices at B&H, or Adorama, which while having a large web audience, also are actual stores here in NYC. Very good prices for most photographic equipment! Both closed on Saturdays, open on Sundays.

That's assuming the Canon in question has a cropped sensor, which it probably has. That lens wouldn't work on my full-frame Canon - the Sigma 12-24 is the closest equivalent. I've heard good reports of the Tokina, though still for UW use I'd get a prime, though I haven't a clue which one. If you want to research some more, an excellent web forum for everything Canon is http://photography-on-the.net/forum/

There are many threads on www.wetpixel.com regarding the pluses and minuses of various lenses for UW use. I have the Tokina and it is a fabulous UW lens.
