Couple of the goals I would like to accomplish.
1. Loose weight( about 50 lbs in this step) I know everyone says it but I'm gonna do it as it's for
my own good physically, mentally and in the dating game.
2. To find what I'm looking for in life that will complete me and make me happy. Sorry to be cryptic but it seems like in the past year I have been wondering ( physically and mentally) to find my place in the world but yet still haven't found what I'm looking for.

Okay since my comments are now fodder for others to use; let me clarify my comments. It don't set resolutions but rather goals as it's easier to work on that way so there not specific to one year.
Dan thank you for the clarification....I misunderstood your statements. However many people do feel that they are doomed before they start. I'm glad you are not one of them. And yes...setting specified goals vs resolutions is a more effective way to ensure success. Kamala

2. Follow what I've learned from WreckWench about nutrition - er, on a more regular daily basis...

Well I've thought of two really important resolutions for me, since health is a priority for me right now...
1. Eat more iron rich foods
2. Follow what I've learned from WreckWench about nutrition - er, on a more regular daily basis...
Er...sucking up is not necessary...but
And yes the trick is consistency!

1. Get back to working out at least 3 times a week; I let that slip when life got in the way. Shame on me!
2. Teach! I started negotiating a contract with a college to use their pool in November, then came the holidays. I plan to have that contact final this month and a class in the pool by February.
3. Build a front porch. I'm tired of unlocking the door in the rain!
If I can accomplish these 3 things then next year I'll raise the bar - an inch.

1 Dive more (may be the hardest resolution to keep I had 69 Logged dives in 2009)
2 Laugh long loud and often
3 Sing like no one is watching
4 Smell the roses everychance I get
and that whole lose weight thing too
Each wreck has a tale to tell about its life and its demise.
If you are observant while diving in dark places listen to the account each has to tell, You cannot come away unaffected.

My top 3 are:
1. Yes, the ever-present "lose weight" - and KEEP IT OFF THIS TIME
2. Spend more time with friends (yes, online counts!)
3. Dive at least once locally (UGH, cold & bad vis, but gotta keep at it until I'm more comfortable with it!)

1) work out on a regular basis, especially on the weekends
2) train for a 5k, 10k and half marathon
3) replace my bath room cabinets
4) replace my kitchen countertops
5) continue my diving education, aka Extended Range, Sidemount, Cavern, etc
6) and most important - DIVE MORE!!!

For more iron rich foods - I read some where (didn't confirm it, maybe someone knows more) that cooking in cast iron adds iron to your food. I swapped out some high end cookware for my cast iron and love the cast iron. It's cheap to buy and easy to maintain, can be used on the stove or in the oven.

2. Dive a combo of Coiba and Malpelo and a combo of Bilikiki in the Solomons, a liveaboard in Fiji, and the wreck of the Calvin Coolidge in Vanuatu, or at least make a plan for doing so in the next two years.
3. Get my website, rodneyderrick.com showing the 200 paintings in my collection, operational in a few months, and publicize it to museums around the world.
4. Develop further the book I am writing about integrity in public and private lives.
5. Sustain running 30 miles a week, lifting three times a week, and swimming two times a week without getting a major injury.
6. Get back to 164 pounds, which was my best running weight. (Currently at 180 which is progress from the 200 which I weighed after not being able to run after surgeries a few years ago).
7. Run a 5k in 24 minutes and a 10k in less than 50 minutes, a far cry from personal bests of 18 and 40 minutes, but lots better than current level.
8. End seven year hermit status as far as certain types of relationships are concerned (No need for more detail here).
9. Avoid watching cable TV blowhards of all political stripes and stupid dogmatic reporting of "news".
10. Continue 40 year successful avoidance of fast food restaurants.

May I replace my resolutions with yours? Pretty please? Yours sound much much better than mine and will be a whole lot more fun too! Well, excpet for that last one at the end...that's never fun, though rewarding! And, I oughta keep the one about my front porch...I need that one. Here are my 2010 Resolutions:
1 Dive more (may be the hardest resolution to keep I had 69 Logged dives in 2009)
2 Laugh long loud and often
3 Sing like no one is watching
4 Smell the roses everychance I get
and that whole lose weight thing too
