OK, Jim has opted out in style! :thankyou:

The boat doesn't have to last forever, just long enough for all 7,000 SD.com investors to get a trip on her. That would be a fine return on a small investment for each of us! :)

I doubt it would last that long. I think she sleeps 18 so if you do the math that will be 7.5 years if it ran every week for 52 weeks which it can't so safely you'd need 8-9 more years out of her for everyone who invested $100 to get one trip. LOL!!

And no thanks on cooking...nor crewing unless its DMing and I do that anyway! LOL! k

Now on the up side, if things don't work out...

1) Insure heavily

2) "Accident" in 90 feet of water

3) Hefty insurance payout

4) Wreck Dive!!! :thankyou:

Hey Tammy-

Who said I opted out (but if I did it WOULD be in style...)? I just pointed out that it is a less than new boat, constructed with less than modern conveniences, etc. Count up the number of heads and you will see we will all be in the "shared" mode. (EEEWWWWWW !!!) The more modern boats also have bow thrusters and stabilizers to make the ride and the time at anchor more "comfortable"! Just remember, there is no discussion of stabilizers on this boat!

GULP... AND, look at the pic of the engine room. Do YOU want to change a head gasket on one of the CAT diesels in that confined space? Personally, although I was diving in 1972 when the boat was built, I have no desire to return to those "pre-BC" days!

Im just sayin' (with levity) -

Well, since I got my journeyman's license in diesel mechanic while working on Cummins engines in Army tanks, I guess by default the engines would be MY purview [hey, it beats washing dishes all the time IMO!]. Trust me, there is less room to work in the engine compartment of a tank.....

Looks like I need to lose just a tad more weight to be comfortable in there! Hey - Incentive! I'll take it where I can find it. :blush2: Maybe this should go in the Fitness Challenge thread.....

Well -

Although it does entice you to join the throng of investor-owners, keep in mind this is a 38+ year old boat with vintage 1970's sized and arranged cabins and common areas. In my best Curmudgeon style I can offer my summary:

A VERY LARGE ALUMINUM HOLE IN THE WATER INTO WHICH
WE ALL WILL THROW MONEY FOR YEARS TO COME!!!

I'm Just Sayin'

UP Diver :o

#1 - Definition of a boat - a hole in the water in which to throw money

#2 - When Dennis Conner [America's Cup yachtsman] was asked, what it's like sailing an AC yacht. He replied, like standing in a shower throwing away $100 bills.

Now on the up side, if things don't work out...

1) Insure heavily

2) "Accident" in 90 feet of water

3) Hefty insurance payout

4) Wreck Dive!!! :blush2:

Simon - you're on to me

1) Raise $$$

2) Get Goldman Sachs to finance the purchase amount, then bundle it into a CDO

3) Buy CDS from AIG on the GS CDO for 4 times the purchase price.

If can work for them, it can work for us!!!

Bill

I'm in too. What a great idea Bill! I can quit my job, sell my house, and live and work full time on the boat. :teeth:

:cool1: :respect: I LIKE THAT IDEA ScubaPunk.

Folks I know these kind of boats. You are looking at $1.5 to $2 million to refurbish IF they can get it past regulatory bodies (presumably foreign flag?) and then another $1k to $5k to operate not counting crew and management.

Some one needs to get real here?

Apparently, I can get this shipped to my location in N Texas for $1093.15. Somehow, me thinks this isn't right but it would be cool to set this on the lot next to my annoying neighbors across the street :)

Heh, then they would really have something to complain about.
