Take an alkaline D cell - about 4 AH of energy in there. The internal impedance of the LR6 is going to be pretty high, so you won't get much current.

Or... rip open an old hard disk drive. The magnets in the voice-coil motor are over 4 kilogauss, just let it attach to the end of your steel bar.

I have an artificial hip, and since 9/11 I have set off metal detectors in almost every US airport I have been in, I am surprised when I don't set it off.


Airport, jail, etc type "metal detectors" can not detect metal inside a human. So if you want to get some metal onto an airplane undetected, just insert it into a body cavity.
