We are planning a trip somewhere warm this winter with a group of friends, however I am the only certified diver. We are looking at The Mayian Riviera and I know Cozumel has the best diving, but with our local air line carriers we only have the mainland as an option for all inclusive holidays. I am thinking Cancun is way too urban and crowded so I was considering Playa Del Carmen area.

I would be leaving the whole group behind to sit on the beach and go diving by myself.

Which dive shops would you recommend?
If I only have time for a couple of excursions, what is a must see or do?
Which all inclusive hotels would be close to the dive shop or is proximity not really important for cab fare etc.
Is it reasonable to take the ferry on my own and go to a dive shop in Cozumel for a day of diving and come back in the evening?

Or should I just say to hell with it and go to Cozumel in October!

Our recent Holbox/Cenotes vets can better say whether either of those sites are feasible as a day trip; thinking Cenotes caverns yes, Holbox too far for one day from the Cancun resort area. :thankyou: Absolutely the Cancun - Cozumel ferry can whisk you to the known quantity (read: terrific) diving across the channel ;) and home by supper! (Assuming you are not captured by the lure of Senor Frog's!) :lmao: :respect:

Ditto with the above response....do both (if possible!) I'm going on the Cozy trip during Halloween, and would love to meet you....join us!!!!!!!!!!!!! You KNOW you would get a LOT more diving by taking the Oct trip. Just a day trip by yourself isn't nearly as much fun as being surrounded by divers for several days.
