I'm expecting the food to be similar to the European Dutch places I encountered in Bonaire or Amsterdam, perhaps; "we have a fabulous 4 star chef and serve tableside" is their description and Trip Advisor shows there is a new chef, Phillip, as of mid-July this year. I'll report!

I doubt you'll call it Dutch. Chef thought he was at 5 star hotel w/ 5 star guests using 3rd world ingrediants feeding blue collar hungry dudes and dudedetts from the states. Enjoy!!!

The Aggressor is probably a good choice. But if you go again I would recommend staying "in town" and diving with one of the many local dive companies. I am getting to be a regular on Utila, making my third two week trip there in Feb-March. There are lots of good (cheap) places to eat on Utila. And I have been diving with Deep Blue for less than $50 a day. There are some really good vacation rentals you can get through destinationutila.com who I highly recommend. They have small places on the beach for $100 a night or so, some larger high-end properties if you have a group, and everything in between. The beer guy and the grocery store will deliver, so you can manage easily with a bicycle. I like to get a golf cart, but that is more expensive. Now that I have been to Utila, I am glad I did not lock myself in to one of the resorts. The town is cheap and fun and I feel safe there, even when I go by myself. Have fun. Utila is currently my favorite place to go. Be sure to go to town and check it out. If you want to plan a return trip, pm me for info and she can take you around to some rental properties in her golf cart. She and her husband are THE people to help you with anything on the island. Tell her Jaque sent you.

Jaque,

Great info! Just realize the thread you are responding two is a couple of years old. How do you prefer to travel there? That seems to be the challenge with that island. I was thinking of doing the sailboat the next time I'm in Roatan.

I get off work on Mondays so I have been flying through Altanta to San Pedro Sula. Delta gets me there in time to catch the domestic flight to Utila tha same day so I don't have to spend the night in San Pedro Sula (dangerous). The direct Roatan flights seemed to be Continental out of Houston and only fly on Saturday, which doesn't work for me. But if you can get to Roatan on Saturday I think Vern's Catamaran would be a safer option, probably cheaper, and more fun. I wish I could do it.

On our trip to Roatan for Halloween, we had people arriving on Continental both Saturday and Sunday and Delta on Saturday.

Not sure if Vern would wait around to leave at say 2pm on a same day arrival, or whether I would have to overnight in the West End. But given that Coconut Tree Cabins is across the street from the dock and about $50 a night, an overnight wouldn't be too bad either.

I traveled with Vern about 3 years ago. You can email him and he will eventually get back to you with any questions. I don't have the contact info now, but it seems like I got it off his advertising site. I think it took 4 hours to get to Utila from Roatan. It also seems like we left arounf 2:00, but I may be wrong. It was a somewhat relaxing trip over. The seas were rough that whole week. It was an uneventful ride over and back. Vern let someone else bring us back, but no worries. It all went well. :)
