I just got back from Coco View Resort in Roatan...the weather was really hot, but had a great time. They are under new management that came in last year..We loved it and cannot say enough. It was perfect for my kind of diving. It is very laid back and meant for people who want to dive. There are some arranged touring trips that you can take, but not much in the way of entertainment at the resort. Since I am mostly there for the diving that was fine by me. The dive boats where great and the captian and divemasters were outstanding. Each day you did two boat dives and two "drop off" dives. What this means, is that you did a boat dive off the boat with the divemaster, then on the way back in..they dropped you off on one of the two walls and you made your way back to the resort. The way back is very well marked with bouys and it is almost impossible to get lost. The drop offs are great because there is no time limit. Several people were unhappy about the drop offs, but their biggest complaint was having to carry their gear 100 feet to the dive lockers. I did not find it to be difficult.

Since most everyone there wanted to dive, we had a great group of people...everyone was really nice and we met some great folks!!! We did do the dolphin encounter at Anthony Key..it was well worth it. The food was fantastic and the rooms very nice and clean..no TV or phones. They do have internet in the main room and a TV upstairs.

If you are looking for just a laid back place to go, I cannot recommend Coco view enough. I was not impressed with Anthony's Key, as it seem much more impersonal and a lot more crowded. However, I am sure there is more to do at Anthony's if you are looking for that.

The shore diving at Coco view is also very easy and just right out the back door. They have a great system for night diving and there is also plenty of Tec diving off the two walls there. Several people were doing some deco and deep dives.

I had a fantastic time there and will definitely go again.

Glad to hear it's still going ok, I understand that the rooms have gotten a little better, I stopped going after the original owners/builders passed away. It is/was a no frills dive camp, you could get in 6 dives a day without any trouble. I can't see why anyone would complain about carrying their gear from the water to the lockers. I am one of those CocoNuts, but I haven't been back in I would guess 8 years.

How were the reefs? Cocoview was always my quick cheap 1 week of diving for less than 2k all inclusive, but I stopped going because the reefs were really getting bleached out, and the number of fish had dropped off. Common fish from the first time I went there had become rare, to not seen in 6 years.

So, if my computer is flashing 212 .. 212 .. 212 does that mean I can't go any deeper?

I would have to say that reefs are probably better then when you last saw them...but compared to other places they are still down..I will say that the resort is very protective of the reefs..They made us do a bouyancy check and also mask flood and reg recover...I didn't mind..I am sure that it is their way of accessing skill level...The divemasters also checked gear and pointed out any dangling equipment. Once again...didn't mind, if it will help keep divers from hurting the reef..it's a good thing.

I also love the ability to do the shore dives whenever I wanted...I have always loved the freedom to plan and execute my own dive plan.
