I'm finally getting around to doing my taxes for 2010... and I have been using TaxCut (now H&R Block) for the past several years to make a few weird tax situations easier... and this year I had a terrible time loading it on my computer.
I finally got past a message that popped up saying that I might not have permissions to access the driver after I disabled (--shudder--) my anti-spyware/internet security/anti-malware program and THEN tried to install the program. Thankfully it installed, but I'm now wondering if this is a problem with internet security programs or if this is just a glitch in my computer...?
Anyone know? (BTW, yes the security program is back to enabled!)
TIA

Depends on your OS version and the security access your login account has.
Typically, if you want to install a program you right click on it and "Run as Administrator" and that installs it with full permissions even if you have a limited rights account.

Thanks Simon, of course it's my own personal computer so I would think I would have all the rights possible...but I don't fully understand how that works with your personal computer. I just don't remember having problems loading software before, and not with the tax software.

if you set up your account you most likely have full admin rights. If you are a user is is harder (but still not hard) for bad people to insert code on your machine without you knowing it and nearly impossible for you to accidentally make disastrous changes to your system by accident. If somebody else set up your account you may not be admin and if you are then you should consider making an admin account and changing your account to user for everyday use. That is how I set up Kamala's machine last week.

While you may have "Admin rights" some software will not run correctly unless you select the "Run as administrator" option. I am hitting that issue now reinstalling Vista on a friends laptop.
When in doubt : "Run as administrator"
