So my mom is looking at a cruise this fall to Rome & other parts of Italy, Greece, Crete etc. She has done several Caribbean cruises and loved them. Now she wants to head to the Mediterranean to see her 'mecca' which is Rome and the Vatican.

So the question is...is an oceanview room on the Navigator of the Seas worth the extra $270 over an interior cabin? (They may have 3 sharing the cabin.)

I know some of it is based upon preference and how much time you spend in the room...but some is also a space consideration or how many people will be in the room. The interior rooms on the boats she has been on so far have had 185sq ft. The interior on this boat has 150 sq ft and the oceanview has 160 sq ft.

So if you have cruised before...which do you prefer and why?

I will state first off that I have never been on a cruise. But, I met your Mom and she seems to like to observe things. For the small difference in price, I would go with the balcony or window. That way, she and her roommates can take their time getting up & about in the morning, linger over coffee as they wait for their turn in the bathroom, and still have something to see other than 4 walls.

Personally I generally cruise with a balcony.

This wouldn't apply to your mom, but it gives space to air out the dive gear!

The question for her would be how port intensive is the cruise, that will define how much time they will spend on ship vs in port. For a cruise like Alaska where you spend days on the boat glacier viewing, the balcony is indespensible. If you are in port every day, you probably be only using the room to sleep.

3 people in an interior room probably means bunks. That would be a consideration too. I know I wouldn't want to have to have my mom try and get into an upper berth. The room layout would be important with three in the room.

Agree with everyone here; balcony is best, with porthole/window second.

Personally, I would only go interior cabin if price was an absolute make-or-break criteria.

I have always gone with an inside cabin due to price. If I was looking to share with 3 others I would definitely look into a larger cabin. Inside cabins can be pretty small.
