Add me to the list.

They've opened up Lionfish spearfishing btw - bring your inner hunter - and even get a PADI card for your collection.

One of the locals bagged like 35 at 200' - so even fun for the rebreather crowd. Heidi, Ray & I must have seen hundreds - and that was just by town pier.

Some of the better Sushi I might add.

No aquarium, no tank in a marine land, however spacious it may be, can begin to duplicate the conditions of the sea. And no dolphin who inhabits one of those aquariums or one of those marine lands can be considered normal.

When were you there, that the common diver could now spear them? Only the Bonaire dive guides who had taken the Stinapa course could spear them in March 2011 when I was last there. We saw plenty, and made sure our dive guide fed them to the eels after spearing them.

If they HAVE opened it up to everyone, I'd be happy to bring my Lionfish Tamer and help out.

It was not open in May when we were there - very frustrating.

According to this - they have started:

Padi Sport Diver Magazine - August 2011, page 21.

One instructor started a PADI course "Awareness and Elimination Specialty", and the national park has gone along with it. Basically I equate the price of a PADI card to a hunting license...

The usual disclaimer - I have no finnancial interest in this instructor or her operation....

Just an FYI for anyone looking at this trip. I just received a notice that Insel Air is now flying out of Charlotte, N.C. They presently have a round trip flight for March 3-10 to Bonaire for $435. The March 3 flight does get in around 10:00 PM. I know nothing about this airline, and in fact have never even heard about them, so this is passed along as information, not a suggestion. Ed

WOW....that's less than half of what I usually pay to get to Bonaire from Kansas City!

We should have LOTS of people from that part of the country signing up. :teeth:

Edit: Just checked, and the cheapest flight I can find today is routed from KC to Newark to Bonaire, total ticket $961.00, if I fly home on sunday instead of Saturday. That's about a hundred bucks more than what I paid for the ticked for the March 2011 trip to Bonaire.

I flew Insel Air from Bonaire to Miami, they were very cheap at the time (Dec 2010). They unexpectedly changed my flight time and it took me a week to contact them (phone would keep ringing over and over), if you get to the airport early no one is there from Insel thinking this is why no one answered. The flight was fine so no problems with the plane, arrival and departure were on time. If I was to do it again I would have paid a few bucks more for a different airline as being in limbo for the week had me worried.

Insel air isnt that bad, with all the expansion there doing i wish AA would wake up and put a flight back to bonaire, instead of cancelling routes. In 2009 I flew DAE Dutch Antilles Express from Aruba to Cur to Bonaire on a turbo prop (ATR 42) and was fine i think my island hopper fare was like $100 all in, which brought my airfare for the trip was $567 for airfare from LAX.

Actually redeye is a good flight and one 85% or more use. Plus you can do your orientation that morning and start boat diving the next day. If you arrive on Delta on Sat pm you can't do the orientation until Sunday am and can then start your boat diving that afternoon and first am dives Monday.

YOU GET THE SAME NUMBER OF DIVES ....but most people like to start their pkg in the AM vs the pm. Either way is fine! And we'll love to have you! kamala
