I took your advice and booked early, I was able to use miles for this flight ... the hours are terrible but for the price, $49.50 + miles, I can't complain. Flying out of Newark, NJ 11:59pm on 03/02 will be in Beautiful Bonaire around 6am on the 3rd.

If you find a decent route and fare, grab it!!

The route from Kansas City via the red-eye out of Houston is over $1,000, plus fees. The route from Kansas City via the red-eye out of Newark is $981, plus fees. :banghead:

I'm still watching....fares have to come down, right?

Hi Kamala,

I hope your Aunt gets well. Take good care of her and yourself. Registration for Bonaire can wait.

As for the sidemount stuff, it certainly looks interesting to protect cavern's ceilings and explore tigh passages. But…I just wanna dive…and visit the island. So I will be interested in a refresh only. I am already set-up and certified for back-mounted twins and two stages and am satisfied with that. What I am looking for is more experience in the 130-165 feet range, open water, preferably on wrecks.

That red eye thing sounds practical. I have studied flights: it takes 14 hours to get to Bonaire from Montreal !!!

So I will leave Friday afternoon and meet you Saturday morning at the orientation session.

Cheers !

Thank you! Just saw your post... actually side mount has left the cavea...it is now the in way to do tech...think about it. A valve drill is a few inches to your left or right vs over your head. You have independent doubles vs a manifold and easier to correct a failure. Doubles are quite expensive to rent on islands if you can even find them. For example in Bonaire they are as below per day whereas sidemount tanks are no add'l charge and your gas may not be any add'l charge either depending on how much you use:

full tec dive gear
$50
oms 100 lbs bcd-harness-backplate
$18
oms 100 lbs bcd
$10
oms comfort harness- backplate
$10
oms primary reel
$3

$15
80 cft/63 cft stage bottle alu 3000 psi
$10
40 cft stage bottle alu 3000 psi
$10
100 cft alu 3300 psi
$10
Gas fill per tank

I will try to get the trip open for booking in the new few weeks. Just haven't had the energy this week so far. Thank you! Kamala

Just a small anecdote.

I was diving the John B. King wreck in a 5 knot current at spring time. A 20,000 ton cargo ship passes overhead. I was slammed, backside first, into some wreck debris. Thankfully, only a Suunto Vytec transmitter (what a useless piece of junk) was damaged and fried. Thanks to back-mounted twins.

Besides, I already have my own gear and the boats I am looking into have doubles onboard (the Truk Odyssey, the Windward, many boats in Orkney).

I'll be happy to discuss all of this while we boat away to our dive sites in Bonaire.

Meilleures salutations

No worries...I am not saying backmount is not the way to go...just sharing the new trend in the industry. We have you on the list for a tech refresher (will have to see what that would run and entail) and I'm gearing up for next week's trip while spending as much time as I can with my aunt.

I may be interested in the TDI Extended range program as a preparation for Truk Lagoon. I have to make the $ calculation. Narcosis management and buddy deep rescue seems interesting, althought I personnally think narcosis cannot be effectively managed on deep air dives. You are just ''frosted'' and slow to react. But helping and rescuing a 'narc' teammate are skills I would like to practice.

I just booked airline from Boston to Newark to Bonaire and back. Continental cash price was $830 but I only needed to use 52,500 points. the arrival flight only needed 17,500 miles. Hope this info helps others.

Hi Little Mermaid, Plenty of space open for this trip. I attended a few years back. Bonaire warm and easy diving in March. This post is like a preshowing of a movie, most of the perticulars are firm as in the dates of trip and estimation of costs. Divers/trip goers are already showing interest and get on the interested list. The dates are so FIRM that divers are already purchasing air flights or converting frequent flyer points for flights. Please reread post #1 & 39 for some trip cost info. If your interested ask to be put on the list and if you find cheap airfare or points for flights, I would pull the trigger.

Most of the trip coordinaters and the Wreck Wench aka Kamala ( owner-founder of SD.com) are currently on a liveaboard for a weeks diving with limited internet. I'll send a special email for them to reply to your request ASAP.

Hope this helps,
Stan
