DATE:

Feb 9-16, 2014

We'll most likely add a day or so onto the trip to allow your body clock to catch up on missed sleep unless we do Kosarae Village since its landbased and we can work around our traveling/jetlag more readily. Arriving at 11pm at night in Truk and starting to dive the next day at 7am is very difficult and well takes a good bit of the fun out of it.

We'll run a second trip in conjunction with this one PALAU that can be stand alone or done in conjunction with this one. It will be after the trip since we are doing the Feb 9-16th date.

PRICING:

The trip pricing has been posted in various places so here is the critical stuff summarized:

$3095 + 5% tax + $30 permit + 20 departure tax
+
$500-$600 approx for transfer hotels for 2 nites before the trip with one in Hawaii and one in Truk and 1 nite/day room after the trip in Truk and one in Gaum on the way to Palau
+
$1800-2000 air from LAX
+
Palau early booking will lock in 2013 pricing which will be for a 7/5 pkg mt view d/o $1265, Deluxe OceanView 7/5 $1319 or Suite 7/5 $1475 d/o. NOTE: The flights look like the pkg will be 8/6 pkg vs 7/5 so we expect to add $230, $236 or $281 respectively for an add'l nite and 2 tank dives. I am working on the final *extras* to be added such as JellyFish lake etc. but this is VERY close pricing if booking Palau during the early booking window.

AIR ROUTINGS FOR TRUK AND PALAU:

Please note the following air routings for Truk, Truk & Palau and Palau only. You are free to book ANY routings you like but these will be the group routings. IF YOU PLAN TO ARRIVE EARLY or STAY LATER PLEASE LET US KNOW SO WE CAN SET UP DAY ROOMS AND/OR EXTRA LAND BASED NIGHTS. I will have rates for that shortly and will help people with roommates etc.

Still trying to miss that 3rd Thursday of the month aren't ya??? ;)

As for Yap...it ain't punkie's fault...she was looking at MY itinerary and I was going to Yap so she thought you all were too! That and working 7 days a week 20 hr days will do that too ya! :banghead:

The only issue with swinging into March another week is all those who can't travel the first of the month, our Single's Week in Bonaire and those who have guard duty the first weekend of the month. And that may be a problem for the last date available in Feb regardless.

I have to choose the date by Monday so all input is needed to help my crystal ball which is clear as mud!

Thank you for your input...

I would say Truk then Yap :teeth: or the Philippines would be the way to go. With the deep dives it would probably be better to not have done a lot of diving the week before. I could see doing Palau as it's own trip possibly too.

I don't have a preference with the dates and could see either working - of course I don't have to avoid the 3rd Thursday's like Fred :P

Planning this far in advance would give time to get any advance certs too. :diver:

Heidi just about ANY month is good for Truk...

Feb is the PRIME month for all winter bound non-teaching divers.

However I will be looking for some PRIME trips for our teachers too! :respect:

Ok so you want Truk first! That is probably a good option UNLESS the diving prior to Truk is all shallow.

And YES the idea is to let people plan for advanced training. To start we'll offer tech training in Roatan this Nov 12-19 by our very own OTWDiver. (He's not only my tech instructor but Jerry's as well as a number of others on this site!)

We'll look at other venues where he can train and we'll offer training in say Texas if we can get enough students together or in Dutch if we have enough interest. He has traveled to Seattle to teach, Dallas, Long Beach, various places in NY and several other venues over the past several years so this is also an option.

Stephane is looking seriously at doing a class with him next summer while doing NC and possibly the Atocha! :cool1:

My 2psi is Truk then Yap. I think the equation was perfect for the Truk Palau trip, don't mess with a good thing. The second leg could be any of the good destinations in that part of the world. The Philippines are another line on my bucket list.

Thanks Jerry...

It seems we have a problem. If we start with Truk and want this to basically be a Feb trip then we need to take the first available date. That date is not ideal because it will exclude those who want to do the Truk only portion of the trip and need to be in the latter half of the month.

If we take the latter date which is certainly in the latter half of the month then then the add-on trip is now squarely in March and we have an annual commitment for March to Bonaire. We could still do it BUT that puts a lot of trips in March for Feb 2014.

I REALLY have to pick the date on Monday and there are already other groups trying to get the date I do not choose.

So far I think we've established that Truk will be first...now which date will be snag?

In the for what it's worth category. The advanced nitrox class is a super course that I highly recommend. A safety stop on air or 32% is great but a safety stop on 70 or 80% or 100% Oxygen is a case of more is better. It also gives you a start on true dive and gas planning. I'll second that OTWDiver is a very good instructor. He'll challange you and when you're done you've earned your certification.

Any date works for me, I would like Yap or Philippines as an add-on. But any other option wouldn't cause me to miss this trip. I priced Bali flights as add-on but price was outrageous. So much for a Truk and Wakatobi dream trip.

Thanks Mike! It would be great to have you as a repeat! :cool1:

I already knew we weren't in the right part of the world to do Wakatobi again...otherwise I would have suggested it.

I agree that Yap or Philippines is the way to go and they now offer DIRECT flights to the Philippines from Truk on CO.
