What a SAD, GRUESOME way to end a future for a young couple...Unfortunately, this fuels the fire to kill more Sharks...I will be thinking twice about N.C.....

The Atlantic sand tiger sharks in NC are one step above a nurse shark in terms of being docile. I would NEVER worry about diving NC. Its like being worried about guppies... just not a problem.

Greg many of us would be dead by now, after 4 trips to N.C. and more by Kamala, we are still here! And that was a snorkler not a diver that was attacked.

I see, don't wear my snorkel...I know Tim,perhaps I was reacting a little overly concerned....God knows I've been in the vicinity of sharks b/4.It's just a Great White tends to be a little more: intimidating, than the average??shark::fish2: : .Hey,lets do lunch ,call me.

Tim (hello stranger!) ;) makes a good point... non-divers are 99% more likely to have issues with sharks than divers. We are horizontal in the water and swim more like a predator. Snorkelers and swimmers are more like possible food i.e. sea lions, turtles etc.

So keep diving and you'll be safe from sharks!

I just think it's a shame that the shark behaved like a shark, and the entire Seychelles is desperate to kill whatever big shark they can point to and say "this is the foreign shark that bites people".

I hope that if I go to the Big Scuba Tank in the Sky via a shark bite, all my dive friends will rally in defense of the shark.....

WELL SAID!!!

More people die from FALLING COCONUTS than shark attacks/bites.
More people die of bee stings than shark attacks/bites.
More people die of reactions to medicines than shark attacks/bites.

In fact...more people die of EVERYTHING more than shark attacks/bites.

But Coconut, Bee Sting or medicinal reactions don't bring record ratings to the discovery channel the way Shark Week does.

But they do get coverage in 5,000 ways to die on Spike TV.

In this case though it is strongly believed that the shark involved in this attack is the same one that killed someone a few weeks ago. That shark should be identified and removed from the ocean.

If true then I agree. But how does one come to such a conclusion? Eye witnesses? DNA from the shark wounds?

I think because there are very few Great Whites around the Seychelles.
