Not a whole lot of information to go on.....are you looking to upload a picture to be your Avatar on the public forums, or a Profile Picture (visible only to Premier Members and above), or upload pictures into the Gallery?

No matter which one you're trying to do, be aware that all pictures should be downsized to no more than 200Kb in file size before you attempt to upload them. In addition, Avatars must be a picture of YOU, either above or below water. Your Profile Picture can be anything you like, as long as it's not in bad taste.

Both the Avatar and Profile Picture are uploaded by first accessing your Profile. At the top of your screen, find your Screen Name and click on the down-arrow just to the right. Select My Profile from the drop-down box. Just below on the right side of your screen you will now see a blue button called EDIT MY PROFILE. Click that. Scroll down, looking at the left side of your screen, and you will see options for your Avatar and Profile Picture, among other things.

If you're trying to upload pictures to the Gallery, let us know & someone will post instructions on how to do that.

Also, apart from not being >200K in size the photo must be PNG, GIF, JPG or JPEG format. The system will reject any picture not meeting those parameters automatically and without an error message.

It also may be the picture uploaded, but you cannot see it because you are caching the old version of the web page. Look at your profile with another browser or clear the temp pages from your browser to see if you can see the photo.

I am also having trouble updating my avatar photo. I could delete the previous one. When I try to add a photo under change avatar, there is a browse button. I can choose the photo (82 KB). However, there is no "save changes" button on the change avatar page, like there is on the change photo page.

Huh. I have a Save Changes button below the Browse area.

I went into my Profile, clicked Edit my Profile, selected Change Avatar from the list on the left, clicked Browse, found the photo I wanted on my computer & selected it, Clicked Save Changes, and now my new Avatar is showing on my screen.

NOTE: I had to resize this picture to LESS THAN 100Kb for the new board to accept the picture as my Avatar!

HOWEVER, even though I've cleared my cache, & logged back onto the site & pressed F5 like a madwoman, my old Avatar is still showing up in the public forums instead of my new Avatar (which does show up on my Profile Change Avatar page as my current Avatar).

Admin, there is a problem somewhere....

I see a dive pic with you holding a sign that says Dive 300.

Try a different browser or computer. If you see the new one then the old cache files are to blame. MS Internet Explorer does not always delete temp or cache files correctly, especially if on the site when you try to delete things.

Try Firefox or Chrome and see if it updated. I recommend FF browser for daily use.

No Pressure - Please see this forum here. If the button does not appear the photo is either the wrong format, corrupt or otherwise not usable. Send the avatar to admin@singledivers.com and we can see what the issue is.

Cheers.

Interesting....I use Firefox on both my laptop & my PC here at home. I used my laptop to change my Avatar, and I went into my Control Panel and deleted all history, temporary internet files, cookies, and everything else including stored passwords. I'm still seeing the old Avatar on the laptop, but as you requested I logged in on my PC and sure enough, I see the new one on that machine even though I did not clear the cache on the PC.

NOTE: I changed my Avatar back to the original one, and then updated my Profile Picture, and they both took effect immediately on my PC, so the system itself is working just fine.

Somehow my laptop is holding onto the old image somewhere, and I just have to find out how to refresh! The F5 key is not programmed on the laptop to function the same way it does on my PC. Not an SD problem! :D

PS: I edited the instructions you pointed him to, to update them for the new board software.

Shadragon. Thanks for the reply. I copied my profile photo (holding yellow fins) to my laptop. It is in jpeg format. When I click on change avatar, the browse button is present, but no save changes button. This is a different computer, so I am not sure what is going on. I'm en route to Cancun for the week, so will send my new avatar photo to admin@ when I get back.
Thanks,

Some time ago I tried to update my Profile (not the picture, but the number of dives) and failed. I can't remember exactly what the issue was, but it may have been that it rejected the fact that there are no zip codes in Belize, or that our phone numbers are a different format to US ones. I just gave up and escaped out of it. I find many websites assume all addresses the world over are like US ones, but that is not the case.
